Alpha 5 will be launched in August!

Alpha 5 will be launched in August!

We plan to launch Alpha 5 version of Totem Tribe II: Jotun in August. Unless something unexpected happens that will force us to reschedule the release date for later, the August timeframe is pretty do-able. Alpha 5 is a major update which releases big features, but also will wipe all of the progress. Let me guide you through what will happen.

The Features

  • Renaissance Age - the biggest feature will be the release of a whole new age with all the new tech, buildings, units, and so on. I will not go into detail here, as there will be separate news post, along with sneak peaks like this one.
  • Tundra Climate - say goodbye to jungle and moderate climate for a while - Alpha 5 will happen among snowy landscapes.
  • Puzzles - there will be 10 different puzzle types added with 6 difficulty levels each, which will result in a total of 60 different puzzles. This is something to look forward to if you have been missing puzzles since the original Totem Tribe days (beware, some of them will be very tough). We even added a whole new achievement category under "Adventure" to keep track of the puzzles. You can see it even now.
  • There are other changes that will be made, but they will be announced upon Alpha 5 release.

The Wipe

Those of you who have been with us for a while are probably aware that each alpha stage begins and ends with a wipe. However I will go into detail again for those who are new and only started playing in Alpha 4.

The wipe means that we will clean everything up - all countries, heroes, and achievements will be removed and you will have to start anew. This is necessary so we could test the big new releases with all the major changes naturally in a clean environment.

An important thing to mention is how your Enkord Cash will be handled during this wipe - any unspent Enkord Cash will stay in your account and you will be able to spend it in Alpha 5. Furthermore, all Enkord Cash spent in August before the wipe will be refunded and you will be able to spend it again in Alpha 5. However, bonus items you have received will be lost after the wipe, so spend them first.

Conclusions

Now, as another alpha testing stage is coming to an end, it would be great if players could post their conclusions and impressions of their Totem Tribe II: Jotun - Alpha 4 experience. Go ahead, don't be shy! :)

Very sorry to read that my progress will be deleted. I was so proud of what I had accomplished. I am playing for not even two months and am sure I do not have experienced a fifth of what this game offers. However, love the game and hope that the function for non-war players will become stronger. I love to explore, build, grow, hate the critters that have to be removed and kind of enjoy if my hero and her followers get rid of them. But that is as much war as I am willing to experience. Interaction with other players is nice. I'm not good at puzzles and encountered some that took me ages and ages and sometimes stupid luck to solve them. Still stuck on some of them. If, besides the war thingy, I have complaints about anything than it is about the sometimes very long times it takes to build things, to resurrect your hero and some of her followers. To learn tech. Also the randomness with which you sometimes receive or find items. My hero has been walking in her jeans and t-shirt very long because the clothes/tools I received were for an other era. Same with tools you need in order to -for example- explore a whole cave. I would also like to see a bit more explanation with certain items you find/win etc. I am not sure what some of them (exactly) do. But that probably is because I've been in this game for only almost two months Futher more I do have tot make my complaints for the look of the game. The flowers, different kinds of trees, bushes etc. All very life like. Very impressive. I remember the first time I saw a little brown thingy in my screen... a dog! The way it moves! Same with the fox, chimpanzee, a boar and even an porcupine. Love them, do not know what they are exactly there for, but never mind. Build especially shelters to protect them :) I do know that the fox are scouts. Applause to you creators of this game.

I too have enjoyed the game, and the alpha-testing, despite the miscues I've been involved in.

Played only Alpha4. Addictive game. A lot of waiting time when upgrading + science research - I don't like to wait too long. When we are supposed to test things, I would like the research to update faster - maybe when the game testing is finished and a final version released, it does not matter so much, but I have only managed to reach level 13 , maybe 14 before the wipe, and have not been able to research all available science yet although I have spent quite a lot of money buying Enkord cash, in order to be able to speed up things. Sad that it will be gone now. I wish there was a way for the chats in the alliances to be kept/retrievable - because we live all over the world and there is a time difference - so when I sleep, others play and chat, and when I start the game again after work, there has been a lot of chatting going on, which I can't see/get info from. I hope there will be such a possibility later (A5?). The PM's seem to stay there for a while longer though. Love this game, have gotten new friends. I miss some of the story line from Totem Tribe Gold - but again - this is a test version....  Thanks for making this game and inviting me to join the testers. Love it so far.
In the finished game, will it be possible to "restrict" the war to heroes/towns of the same age - as it is now, it feels kind of unfair that the ones having played very long and built up a large army with heavy weapons etc. and who have come far into the newer ages being able to wipe out newcomers in the "lower" ages. If this would have been the finished game itself, I might not want to continue playing it, but as this is a test version, I guess everything needs to be tested out.
Looking forward to Alpha5, and at the same time I wish that my progress would not be wiped out, but it's the same for everyone....lol.
One more thing - the final game version - will it be possible to put ones heroes "on hold" for some time when one is not able to play for a while? I have experienced PC-crash and also had to stay in areas without/or with very limited internet access. When the PC crashed it looked like I would have to be without a PC for 3-4 weeks and would not be able to play. Fortunately I found another solution and my PC recovered after 1 1/2 week. I guess this problem might occur to anyone playing the game, sooner or later. It would be nice to know that you could start again where you left it.

I have been

I have been playing only for 100 some days, but have learned so much from other players! I thoroughly enjoy playing the game. Few things I would complain about, (being an impatient person) it would be wonderful not to have to wait so long for researching and building. I also like the puzzles, but could they come with hints perhaps? Some are just to hard to figure out without help from others that have already gotten done with them. And those dang ugly worms!!! lol I love the progression of the game and having to use my brain to strategize and learn to do things in the proper order so as to accomplish what is next. Thanks so much for the efforts put into making this an amazing game, and thanks also to all of us who have donated a considerable amount so that the game can keep growing!!

Yes. Even better, we have "vice" or "proxy" mechanism planned which allows you to assign other players to look after your country while you are absent - builld, upgrade, etc. so you will not be left behind while absent.

Also feel like I have to explain the general "slowness" of the game. It is there not not annoy everyone who plays the game :) It is the only way to allow a lot of people from all over the world play the game fairly in one big world. If the game would be faster, then the person who spends the most time will get a major advantage and it will not be a good thing. Think kids who have a lot of free time playing the game 24/7 will become 10x or even 100x more developed than people who have a day job and can only play in the evenings. The slowness is to make a lot of free time less important for your overall progress.

Yes, that one can't be over-emphasized! :)

What I forgot to ask... I think I remember I have read somewhere on the forum about it. But I would like to plea for a way to make it possible to put your game on hold if you are away for a vacation or whatever reason.

I love the game. Alpha 3 was wonderful and alpha 4 was even more wonderful!

I too was very skidish about the war aspect of the game, but am not so afraid of it any more. Actually being attacked by a big player was a valuable experience. Not that I liked it, but it did teach me a lot about how to defend.

I love the new things that you have added to the game, such as the caves and the artifacts. So much to do now. :)

I am really looking forward to alpha 5 and all of the new, fun things that I am sure to find.

Great job, team!!!

It will be sad to see my progress wiped, but I look forward to new challenges. Any idea on how many Alpha versions there will be for the game or when will there be a Beta phase? Thanks for a very interesting game and all the support for those of us who struggled a bit :)

I am really looking forward to another Alpha ... and snow! Goodbye jungle fever and hello ... what?? Hmmm we shall see what this new adventure brings us!

I have been fortunate to be here while this game has grown and developed since Alpha 2. But Alpha 4 saw so many changes... Caves, treasure hunting, new achievements, new monsters (really quite creative!), new frustrations (could I be speaking of stalagmites?), weapon & armor repair and enhancement, more destruction than ever (I can destroy even my own clothes :) ) ... many new things to test and try out. Things seem to be happening so quickly now.

I am looking forward to the new Alpha mainly to experience a more natural progression of abilities and growth from stage one hero development to higher hero levels with all these new game items in the mix. At the same time there will be more new and creative things happening .. can't wait for those new boats to sit in my harbor .. It will be a completely different experience.

So  ...  Bring on the snow :)

This! With all the stuff added in the middle of Alpha 4, I wonder how people will like it when they will be introduced to all that stuff gradually.

It will depend on how stable the game will be and how many players it will be able to handle. The access to the game is invite-only because server unable to handle the load. Back in the days we had plans to launch beta 1 after alpha 4, but once we have started to invite players, we had to change our plans significantly. For now, we will have to keep alpha label and invite players carefully. Unlimited access to the game for everyone might ruin to for all due to server crashes and slowdowns. Anyone can invite their friends/relatives even now through invite system though.

I have played only alpha 4, but although I miss some of the TotemTribe 1 action, after I while I started to enjoy the more strategic approach of the game. Both games are alike, but definitely not the same.

I only hope that The Wipe won't wipe out the joy in playing ;) Don't worry, even if it will, it is in no case because of the game, but because of my lack of adaptability. :)

In general, every improvement is welcome. So looking forward to play Alpha 5.

Cheers, and thanks for all the effort in the former stages! One thing to add, I really appreciate the communication you did Berserker through the chat.

Is this going to mean more figurines from quests for players that are not using real money?

It might be time to improve your servers. :)
