What's in the Cave?

What's in the Cave?

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Holiday Season! In this news post we will shed some light on what was going on since we revealed our plans for closed alpha stage 2. Like we mentioned in our previous post, we need to make major stuff like Advisor Quests and new quest location called Opposition Hideout before we will launch the next alpha stage.

The good news is

Advisor Quests are ready and we are working at full strength on Opposition Hideout. As you can see on the picture above - the latter will feature a cave setting and will be quite similar to the Totem Tribe 1 puzzling-adventuring-questing experience. Except this time around I decided to approach original formula from a different agle. In Totem Tribe II: Jotun there often will be more than one way to complete the same quest! For example, if you have enemies that stand in your way, you can opt to kill them, but alternatively you can bribe them to let you through, or solve a puzzle and open up alternative passage on the other side of the map.

The fact that we are going well on schedule gives us hope to be able to launch Alpha-test stage 2 before Christmas and make some nice present to those people who will be invited.

I know a lot of Totem Tribe die-hard fans played the first game more than once (and some of them more than dozen times!) and with alternative ways to solve quests you will have more fun replaying the same level several times to see all outcomes. Hopefully increased replayability of this approach will be a nice cherry on top.

What do you think about non-linear quest solving? Is it something you wished in original Totem Tribe when playing through it second time around?

LOVE the idea of non-linear quest solving! I will enjoy the challenge of solving quests in more than one way.

Now that I think about the original Totem Tribe, it would have been very useful to have this but it did not stop me from replaying the game many times.

This is going to be a great addition to the game! I replayed TT1 so many times. Love the idea of being able to reach the same results many different ways. :)

Great idea, team! I've played through TTG three times and being able to solve quests in different ways would have made play-through # 3 a lot less "automatic"; knowing where that one gem is, accidentally remembering the placement of all the totems etc. This way, even those staying away from the MMO-parts and focusing on the single player questing experience "TTG style" will find even more replay value on top of the random quest locations.

Well played, Enkord. Well played. Even more fervently wishing for an invite to TT2 in my xmas stocking.

Before Christmas ? Isn't Christmas tomorrow ??? ;) Now every single day I have to wait for Christmas will be even more torture than before! Anyway, now I know for sure that the greatest Christmas gift this year will be the launch of the Alpha 2 stage! Great news and the idea of alternative ways to solve situations is brilliant !

*lol* I know, but that just goes to show you how much fun I already have playing the game. ;)

Edit: Forgot to ask something: Would it be possible to also make the mining technology accessible ? I think it would be good to test the ore fields on the city map.

Well done lads, that's a brilliant idea and while you insist that the game has an ending it would appear that it will be playable to infinity and beyond!!!

The mining makes no sense without the rest of Classical Age and Classical Age is beyond the scope of stage 2. Maybe on stage 3 we will add Classical Age - there is just too much work to unlock it soon - sailing vessels, catapults, transports, etc.

*lol* No, this time I didn't think about getting more. I really just thought about testing the ore fields whether they run as smoothly as the other resource fields. :)

This non-linear approach is fantastic. I played TT1 and gold many times over, but the reason I finally stopped was because it got dull. I knew exactly how to finish each level, how to complete a puzzle, where to look for items, how fast something would take to do... the only thing that remained a 'mystery' was where to find the gems. Having a non-linear game now will make this a great way to play over and over and over without getting sick of it.

I don't think because It would be fine to have a new available research from time to time. It don't must be the whole age.

For example we just need 1 research to get the next age, this also means we could wear some of the clothes of our invantory. With mining and ore we also can raise our market level 5+, we could test some items depends on ore production and so on.

What is the point to test things that are completely not ready?

If they are not ready, its senseless to test them. I just want to say for us its wonderfull to see the small updates with 1-2 new features too.

For example I would prefer to see some things of the next ages step by step (naturally depends on the time you need to get them ready) instead of waiting for the complete techtree of the whole age which needs much more time. In this case most of us will primary test the new available feature. With a huge update there are so many new things for us so its harder to find out some small problems at a special function.

It's natural that players want to see updates as often as possible, but you must understand that we have internal plans and schedules we are following to make our development process optimal.
