Treasure Hunting and Archeologist Quest

Treasure Hunting and Archeologist Quest

Since we have recently added artifacts, we are now able to expand on this and add a whole new side to the game - Treasure Hunting! Similar to fishing, you will be able to excavate for treasures here and there.

Let's do a breakdown of new things added in today's update.

The Archeologist

This is where it all begins. If you go to Keepers' Village you will find a new character there - The Archeologist. There is a small quest that you need to complete for him and then he will teach you how to dig for treasure at various spots in the world.

The Treasure Spots

There are now numerous treasure spots of different sizes and potential rewards. A lot of them have Artifacts in them, so they are worth digging into! Unfortunately, to find the majority of the spots it will require creating a new player - or at least new town. Towns existing prior to this update have a limited number of treasure spots available.

Excavation Tools

You cannot do excavation without tools. You will need to find some tools - the Archeologist will help you to get started on this as well.

Treasure Hunter Perk

The perk is working now and improves your treasure hunting process. More complex treasure places will require you to have this perk.

The Rewards

Treasure spots are perfect places to find artifacts, so let us know in the comments below what kind of artifacts you have found - if any. You might need to raid some ruins though.

I have not found a way to get through the ice yet. I hope that the hidden objects I need to find are not behind there. I am getting eye strain looking and it has become very tiring.

Surely I am not the only player who very much likes the great bulk of the game, but is often flummoxed by these elements.

These "flummoxing elements" are extras and can be skipped if you find them entirely too frustrating.

I do not think I will ever know :( I do not think I can find any joy in the game anymore :( I used to like the interaction but all the new players are not interested in trying things for themselves, they want walk throughs and spoilers and to be told what to do from the moment they get on. Maybe I will feel differently tomorrow. I cannot believe after this long I turned the game off tonight and do not even care if my army comes home safe.

I agree with you on this and as I am a minor player I wish to find things on my own! It's is a sad day when a major player is compelled to quit!

lvl 42, 6% resource find change  (treasure hunter at 6%):

excavation 30 min. (quest excavation): patrician ring

excavation 30 min. (quest excavation): patrician ring

excavation 30 min. (quest excavation): aztec signet

excavation 30 min. (quest excavation): lorica segmentata shoulders

1 hour excavation: nothing

Those who complain about mosty getting nothing out of the excavation probably have a hero not skilled in treasure hunting. Get some perks and see the difference.

Couldn't agree more ...

Also I have to emphasize that most treasure spots are present on the new heroes - good amount and variety. Pre-existing heroes have only couple weakest spots (soil with spade and bucket) and couple of the toughest ones (temple, shipwrecks)

I don't believe any player can consider the central Gromus narrative, including the Keepers' Village, to be an "extra". Or that ceasing the tree-hunt in frustration leaves a satisfying game.

It certainly is not an extra in the way that the gem-hunt in the Cave of Doubt and Fear inarguably is.

Currently offered "adventure" games with HOG elements routinely include Hint and Skip buttons. I do realize that such programming is not trivial. I nevertheless continue to recommend it as an alternative or complement to spoilers in the forums.

It is inconvenient that, unlike fishing, the remaining time for an excavation in progress is not displayed.

Have you played original Totem Tribe?

Unfortunately today's first update screwed fishing and treasure hunting until today's second update. If you were fishing or excavating between first and second updates today, those spots become bugged beyond recover. This may break your archeologist quest if one of the spots in Keepers' Village became bugged this way, however that quest is not required for other excavations and you can use Excavation Kit on other spots like the ones in your towns. The bug is fixed now so future fishing/excavation should work fine. Sorry for inconvenience.

I have four heroes (levels 5 and 6) doing the digs in Keeper's Village.  I've reskilled them all, so they have from 2 to 4 levels in Treasure Hunting.  Some of their digs still fail but most of them succeed.  None of the results so far have been any use - three ordinary Leaf Skirts, one club, one spiked club, one Plebeian Belt, nothing I didn't already have.

Now one of my heroes has completed the quest in KV, and received as her reward a ring.  Which it would take another 4 perk points to be able to use.  Since I've already used all my re-imagine potions getting Treasure Hunting I'd have to gain 4 more levels to do this.

I am not enthused.

Another of my heroes has also completed the quest and got a different item that she could use.  Evidently the first one was just unlucky.

I do think the ships are nice :) but was very disappointed to be told I need a better kit to excavate them :(

I am also disappointed that my treasure advisor is not able to excavate for me. All I see with this update is another way to tie up the hero and that nothing else can be done while it is busy excavating :( So now we have fishing, caves, and excavating, and while the hero is busy doing those things no monsters can be killed, and though we can send the army off to war without the hero we all know they can do better if it goes along.

So I am back to suggesting that we need a unit that can do some of these things for us, why does the fisher with no fish not join and fish for us and why is Lester not digging the treasures?

Ok.....I have read the post on the bug about the treasure hunting, but my questions are not addressed. My issue is yesterday I finished the quest found all his tools, the he told me to excavate the site beside him. That is when my problem started. I started the excavation, then it stopped. It says it is in progress but my character still can move around and it has been stuck now for over 24 hours, and because it won't let me finish I cannot report back to the archeologist to receive my treasure hunter perk. So now I can only excavate the little mounds and when I try to excavate the bigger sites it says I have to have a treasure perk. So what do I do now????

Get a perk? Getting the perk has nothing to do with the quest. It is in the hero tab where you upgrade your hero after the level-up.

Old towns mostly have simpliest treasure spots which do not require perks and tools to excavate or most complex spots like temples and shipwrecks which require maximum number of perks and top tools. I guess you will fully enjoy treasure hunting in alpha 5 when you will have new hero :)

I have three heros that have completed the archaelogical quest.  I did not use any treasure hunter perks, simply because there is nothing in the dialogue to indicate that this should be something to consider prior to excavating the 5 sites to complete this quest.  Out of 3 (heros) X 5 dig sites, i only found a single apu dagger by my lowest level hero.  The other two found nothing.  I found out only later in local chat that the % of finding something without perks is 20%.  Adding a perk only increases this chance by 1% per perk.  I can say that starting off with finding next to nothing during the quest, did not encourage me in any way to adjust my currently set perks to treasure hunting.  Even though the buildings in my towns look very nice, I'm not interested at all after this initial introduction to pursue this part of the game.

Now, looking at it from the perspective at a brand new player to the game, i would offer some suggestions.  Keep in mind, that Keeper's Village is unlocked relatively early for new players, at low hero levels (maybe hero level 1 or 2 if they are really quest eager).  At this point, newer players are unlikely to even know about hero perks, because it is not something that is even mentioned in the tutorial quests with Zweistein or Bulat, but even if they did know about the perks, they are at such low levels that they wouldn't be able to get a very high level treasure hunting to have much effect on the find %.  As said before, there is nothing in the dialogue currently that says adding perks will increase your chances for finding something in the digs.  So, a new player, will come along and likely experience the same 'disappointment' i did with this quest when nothing or next to nothing is found.  So my suggestion is to maybe adjust the dialogue to mention the use of hero perks somehow, or to adjust the 'find' % of the intitial dig sites somewhat so that it is guaranteed that at least SOMETHING is found during this quest, just to get the player interested in this part of the game.

Makes sense. I will increase chances for low-tier digging spots in the next update.
