Defending against attacks

1 2
Astor, you’re being a bully. I would really appreciate it if you could please stop. You killed my hero on the day she was created, attacking my village 6 times. I have endured you attacking my village every night since, knowing the pvp aspect was part of the game. It’s taken me 7 days to research enough stuff to build an Altair to get her back. I no sooner resurrected my hero when you attacked… 6 times!!! … to leave me with nothing… again. I would like to experience a little more than just the tutorial. This is exactly the reason why people were so against the pvp aspect to begin with. Surely there must be someone other than me out there for you to pick on…

That's a good case. Actually we don't need him to stop, we need you to be able to fend off such attackers easily since in real game there will be may of such people. The advisor quests will be telling you how to build up your defenses, but since at the moment they are not present, I will give the advices myself.

  1. I assume that you are plaing with Communality (default) polity selected which gives you great defense bonuses and 50% strage protection. If not, then you shouldn't comlain as you have selected aggressive mode consciously :)
  2. Because of those defense bonuses, your troops are roughly 3 times stronger than attacker and thus you need 3 times less to defend.
  3. 50% storage protection means that as long as you keep your resource green (not bigger than 50%), the attackers wont steal anything. Upgrade your stoage to upgrade protected limit - when attacker won't steal anything a few times in a row, he will loose interest.
  4. If you dont want to have your hero and units killed - store them at quest locations like Herald's Home when you are away! Other players cannot access your quest locations so it's a safe house for them. Just make sure you have enough food there because your troops might starve.

Now as I've outlined some basic bits, there are some defensive strategy that will work even better:

  1. Towers! Just like in TT1 towers are great - they are just like warriors, but cannot be destroyed unless your opponent attacks with Primitve Rams. Build towers and upgrade them and your enemies will thin twice if it is worth it to plunder you when they loose troops on each attack. Especially since today I've increased the power of towers.
  2. If you have defending troops - upgrade your Palisade as it increases health of defending troops. You will be upgrading it anyway if you will be building towers since it is required.

Combine all those suggestions for the best effect :) Hopefully those tricks will help you and other suffering to stand against attacking players. In the real game there will be 7 days of beginner protection during which you will be taught how to defend, but now for the same of testing we need you to handle that menace on your own to see if the game provides proper means to do so.

Thanks Berserker. This is exactly what I’ve been trying to do… build up things to make it much harder for people who attack me.. I was a bit (lot) frustrated because every time it seemed I was making headway, all my little people got annihilated! I did not choose Communality Polity for my hero because I wanted to see the difference between the two. I expected people to raid, to attack. I did not expect people (especially in the testing phase) to appear to be determined to wipe me off the map. Naïve I know. I had not thought about putting my people in another location. I’ve just been using braves etc from my other town (Communality Polity) to help defend. I’ve been trying to upgrade things with limited resources and am getting there slowly. I will persevere… it would be nice though to have my hero for more than a couple of hours. Will find somewhere to stash her! ;)

Just a note - units from other player will not have their defense bonuses from Communality. They have them only when garrisoned in native town.

Also since you play with Leaderism, you might want to research and build stashes to protect your resources from plunder.

Those are some good tips. Maybe worth saving and drafting into a strategy guide... ;)

It's really good the way the wall (palisade) moves (expands) after you build it and then add another building to your town.

This defense system is really fun. I faced two attacks and only lost 9 fighters and one tower decreased from lvl 3 to lvl 2 while the attackers lost all in all 90 fighters and 2 heroes. Warning to the attackers, I already upgraded stuff even more. *lol*

Well, let me comment on the reports :)

The first player Live actually has defensive polity selected (Communality) and therefore he has like 3x bigger defense and 3x smaller attack power. Taking into account that your defense is also 3x stronger (as you selected communality too) this means that his army is 9 times weaker that it actually is (due to your bonuses and his penalties combined).

The second player has Leaderism and does not have attack penalty, therefore only your defensive 3x bonus applies, but apparently you have a lot of towers and high palisade level that helps you siginficantly :)

At that time I had palisade lvl 7, 2 towers lvl 5, 4 towers lvl 4 and 1 tower lvl 3, which was downgraded by the attacks to lvl 2 . But as I said before, I'm still upgrading. :)

Does destroying town system work now? On both attack types i just capture resources and no damage to building?
