French Translation Project

Back in the days we have managed to translate the game to Russian and recently we have also started translation to German with the help of our players who assist in proofreading. Many thanks to those players, you know who I refer to :)

Now I am considering to start translation to another language.

One of the potential options is to translate the game to French next.

The biggest problem is budget - the game so much text that hiring professional translators (especially native speakers) would cost us impossible amounts of money, considering that we are a small indie developer. With Russian translation we have hired students, but since we speak Russian ourselves, we edited the results and got decent translation on a modest budget. Unfortunately we don't know French to do the same with French translation.

This is where we need help from players.

The plan is to hire local students again to translate and then have French-speaking players to proofread the results. I am making this thread so players willing to help us with the French proofreading would sign up here. The more will sign up, the less text would be per player and considering how much text there are we need a lot of help.

Therefore if you are willing to help - please let us know and post here!

We need only veteran players though, who know the game well enough to understand the context, so only those who play at least 6 moths are preferred, so post how much time have you playing the game already.

If you don't speak French, but know TT2 player who knows it, would you kindly send him/her a link to this thread?

Wow great new. I usually translate softwares like IObit softwares, Comodo Internet security, Frhed and tons of other softwares.

My job in progress is GetInsta.

I usually work on INI files, HTML with Notepad++ , and hex editors sometimes (Resource Tuner, Frhed for instance) for EXE files. A long time ago, I translated a whole website, some help files.

I really enjoy if I can help, for free of course.

I am a native french.

hi Bers,

French is my first language and I play since the end of last Alpha. I played almost all: collect, despot, Monarchy, Republic. Had been in many alliances and even created my own one. So you can reach to me if you need :)

Thanks for everyone volunteering. From our experience with German translation we need at least a dozen of people to move forward with it so if you know any other players who could help, let them know and forward to this thread.

Thank you, but don't rush into tinkering with xml files. If we will start translation it will be exported into .xls files alongside with English text for reference.

Hello everyone, your desire to help is very encouraging.

If you are interested in helping with proofreading, mail me, please. After we have a solid team, we will ask translators to begin their work on French translation. The translator are professional university teachers, skilled in French language, but we are not sure how appropriate their translation will be. After the first 10% of the text will be over (it may take one month or more), this part will be given our French proof-reading team for checking and quality control. We can get rid of any minor mistakes, typos or inappropriate translation for the game, and other issues. If translation will be good and satisfying in general translators will go on with the rest of the text and after finishing other parts, we will proof-read them as well. After they translate and we will proof-read the last part it will be finally fine-tuned for the game and French language for Totem Tribe II will be released!

There is no deadline and work probably will take months. After translation of first part will be done, we will start work together in collaboration. File with translation will be shared and each of you will proofread the selected part. I will give all the details in discord channel. All who want to help proof-reading will get the access and you all will work together in Google Spreadsheets. We will not be limited in time and there is no strict deadline but proofreading can’t last forever.

So, if you want to volunteer and become a part of proof-reading team, please let us know!

Hello and yes, I'm willing to help. Proofreading is important because translators may know very well the language, they don't know the game. In the german translation, most of the errors came from that.

I don't know if the translation project is still relevant, but I'm French and I can help with the translation with pleasure.

I have another idea that has nothing to do with the translation project but I don't know where I can offer this service.

I have also been a composer for 5 years and the music in your game is memorable to me. I don't know if you are looking for staff to help with the sound design/musical composition, but if so, don't hesitate to contact me! :)
