global chat - speaker horn?

1 2

I need a speaker horn to chat on the general chat? I have to pay to chat? Not going to happen. Someone asks a question and I can't answer it because I do not have a speaker Horn? Is this something brand new?

There is a number of speaker horns that can be obtained for free through doing quests but yeah, the idea is you have to pay for global messages. This is done so the global chat will not be flooded with pointless messages and will be used only for important shouts and not because we want to earn money on this. Before the update even with small number of players right now it became pretty flooded with pointless chat which majority of people did not care about. Imagine what will happen if there will be 10 times more people. Imagine 100 times more, 1000 times?

i have still not started the game, but how do you comunicate with people near you? is there any kind of regional chat or something? They are pointless messages but thats how people resolve their doubts or search for posible friends. So,can we still talk in any way without speaker horns(except pm)?

Why private message does not suit you? There is also an alliance chat still there.

it's not that it doesn't suits me, i was only asking if there are other ways apart from that. also i think that this limitation will destroy the social aspect of the game for new people. New players will have it harder to join an alliance because they don't know anyone, and with pms you can only communicate with 1 person that you can annoy without knowing it. To send a pm to anyone you have to see s/he in the map (at least i don't know any other way). I think that if you could implement a continental/regional map the game would be much more "friendly" to people without experience in this class of games

I don't think social aspect will be hurt. Much of it happens in the private/alliance chats anyway.

I think a fair point is being raised in this and a couple of other forum threads about the ability to find people you want to talk to.  While I understand that many players would not like to have their location identifiable through some system, I propose that if we could have an

-like function where we can look up a player and send a message - that would be great!  Along with that would have to be the ability to block someone if you don't want to hear from them.  An idea for folks to comment on.

What you are proposing is already implemented, it's a friend list and ignore list. The porblem is friend list currently present on website only and not YET in the game.

Bers, I was suggesting something different.  It would be like a phone book.  You can look up a name and find the way to contact them.  I see your point about the friend's list, but it would be great to be able to be in the game and find someone to message that you don't need to friend.  This is a bit more important now that speaker horns are enabled (which I love BTW!).

The message system will have sort of contacts list, including friends and people you have already talked with.

I totally understand the need to reduce useless chat. But the problem I have seen so far is that when there are problems like crashes or something not working correctly  it is harder to communicate to everyone and figure out what is causing the problems. There have been times when it took several comments on chat to figure out what was going on.

The pros of limiting it outweights the cons.

So, in a multiplayer game it's more profitable to simply remove the first way people has to meet other people (because we'll be honest, noone will use the chat for that from now on) than to keep it. i understand that the chats mechanic needed to be controlled buuut... maybe i'm not getting it wright, i would sincerely like to know the pros. I suppose that it can be resource demanding and would be flooding if it's kept as now, but IMO, a multiplayer game (and even more if it is based so much in alliances,wars...) should not limit that much the ways that people have to interact with other people.

When i saw the speakers last alpha i though there were going to be multiple chats. of course that would only make things go worse, so it's not a solution.

To be honest, for me is not that much of a problem, i have friends of previous alphas and the gameplay wont be so altered for me, but if i invite someone and s/he wants to play with independence, finding an alliance would be much more tiring. If the chat is not usefull for in-game things, why does it exist?Dont we have forums for bugs, doubts and even friends searching already?

The pro is:

Unlimited flood which will increase in geometrical progression as the number of players rises and make global chat unusable and annoying part of the game is now regulated and cannot be abused easily, still retaining the functionality to shout where everyone will hear you when you need it.

I understand, but then whats the point of having a chat? we can do all that things and even more in the forums, and they are permanent and do not dissapear.

Pd of course, i havent though about market offers, that could be an use

The chat is so quiet now, the last messages are from this morning. It was fun before reading the chat, yes I know some players went a bit overboard with their going on's. But now it is just, what is the point, of even having the option of chatting if we can't really use it. guess I am just whining a bit. It was nice to go in and say Hi and feel like there was someone around to listen, and be glad that your there sharing the game with them. It is so International and I got a kick out of chatting with someone on the other side of the world. Now it is very impersonal. I try to say Hi if someone asks me for help. But that is just not the same.(Whine, snivel)

The world map is designed to fit up to 100 000 players. Imagine 100 000 players say random things every now and then.

Win a 250 pack at the wheel and you can chat all you want

Personally, my solution would be craft-able speaker horns, they would take 12-24 hours to make, would count as a separate item then the normal horns and you can only hold so many crafted ones at a time to prevent mass chat spamming. Just my 2 cents though :/
