In-game chat improvements suggestion thread

1 2

I have a suggestion.  There has been a lot of chatter on cc lately that could also have the effect of silencing new players who are not comfortable jumping in.  I am as guilty as anyone in that regard.  A great many of us have made friends with people on the game and imo that is one of the biggest positives about it.  Yes, there is ac, but banter also occurs among members of differing alliances.  There is also the matter of coordinating multi-alliance activity that is very difficult currently with having to open a number of pms between players involved.

So, the way I see it is to implement private group chat windows to which people can invite the players they want to have banter or make multi-alliance plans.  That way cc is left open for game-related questions and announcements by you with ensuing discussion.  :-)

Or, make another chat that is strictly for banter with the private chat windows as well.

I will summarize current challendges involved with Common Chat.

1) First I want to explain how I want the Common Chat to look like: my ideal common chat would consist mainly from random questions from newbies when they are stuck. This way they will get answers in PM, start private conversations and maybe find friends that way through the course of players helping each other to know the game better. Sometimes there may be brief game related conversations of a change, like discussing update or a strategy, etc. Maybe there maybe even be occasional life-related sparks, but long banter about non-game related subjects (which I am sometimes also guilty of) should go away from Common Chat.

2) This raises another issue - some people love to banter and its a major game driving point for them. Such people should have an ability to do so. Hence this thread. I thought Alliance Chat will be a solution for those people, but apparently it's not always the solution as sometimes people bantering are the ones from different allainces. It will be too mouch of a constraint to force them into gathering in a single alliance.

Post your suggestions how to solve first issue without cutting out the second one. Potential solutions are creating separate "banter" channel which won't be default and anyone can post there (probably not even spending speaker horns), this soultion is much easier and can be implemented pretty fast. Another solution is to create temporary multi-user chats accessible by invites. This feature is more complex to implement and may take some time and waiting on our priority list, but it's also more flexible - it will allow to use such chats for things beyond banter, like mulit-alliance coordination, etc.

What do you think? Maybe there are alternative solutions to those two proposed, so go post about it!

Thatґs the best idea Iґve read in the past days.Iґm playing this game 4 days and I feel a bit lonely :-). No one to chat with, no idea whaґs with alliances..... and to use a horn to be able to comunicate istґs not handy.....ergo, as newbe itґs hard no one to ask for guidence or just chat

Iґve played for a couple of years another online game and loved the chat diversity. Was divided in guild chat where players could advertize for theyr guild, market place where everybode could trade, fight/war chat, tavern chat where players could just talk about everything and help chat where players could ask for help. Was realy organized. Maybe can this idea help you? :-)

IF your thought patterns are heading toward creating new chat tabs, why not facilitate those newbies who are looking for simplicity and a comfort zone? Instead of trying to change the current chat that naturally evolved into what it is, how about a chat tab that is only for newbie help? No teasing about sun questions or any other question for that matter. As long as we don't have the semi-newbie who wants to show off his/her most recently gained knowledge (that turns out to be wrong) - this might work to really help those who want to know about alliances, growing cp or army, AND getting to know each other .. etc.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of long conversations either in CC nor in AC, the reason being that CC isn't made for that (and horns are the proof) and AC should be for game stuff, example: I find it hard to know where i should send the spare resources if when someone answers me there have been 20 messages more and i have to search for them.

I like to chat about game stuff, and when i have lots of free time (usually in summer) i like to join some of these long conversations, but usually i just don't have the time to.One thing is a fast chat about how good/bad your country is doing lately, that going into AC, but having a 2-hour long chat starting with you cooking your favourite food, then how dirty your house is and then ending with how awful the weather's today shouldn't belong to AC.

It has happent many times to me, i just can't follow alliance things, as i have the game minimized and using the computer. Someone asks for food. 10 minutes later i "open" the game. Imposible to notice as there are 30 other messages. I think any of those ideas is fine, i find the multi-PM one a bit better, as the game icon in the hotbar would not blink if you are not in the chat, but i wouldn't complain if the other one is made. Even an "important message" function would suffice, just having a star or something by the message if it's important.

I like the private group chat window with invitations.

I love the idea of a Tavern Chat!   The name alone describes what I think will be a good solution to the issues.  :-)

I still think the group private chat windows are an important thing to consider and implement to assist with multi-alliance coordination, however.  :-)

Why not create both? A 'banter' chat room and also an invite only chat? The invite only would be very useful for cross alliance coordination and the banter chat would clear our common for it's intended use.

Just a random thought arriving from the comments about "tavern chats" - would it be possible for every kingdom to have a 'tavern' on their map or in their Dwelling they can click on to go hang out and banter? Maybe it could open a separate chat tab once you've accessed it or something.

It would have to be a location you can access without physically needing to send your hero there, or no one would have time to go there. But that way you have to actively decide to participate, and people who don't want to participate can just ignore the whole thing.

I like the idea of the Tavern chat, some place you can drop into and waste a bit of time. Like the local pub or bar, we could even have popcorn to watch the fights when someone has too much to drink. Oh I want to be the Bartender, no wait the wench, no......the drunk Ol' lady down at the end of the bar is good me.  LOL looking forward to this item to be added soon.

I completely agree. I suggested a newbie chat, but isn't that really what CC is for? It became especially annoying at the end of last alpha. I wonder how many horns have been spent on "LOL :-)"? I know we have created relationships, but it clogs up the avenue for real game questions, market offers and updates or potential bug conversations. Because of this 'chatter', I usually ignore the messages that flash over my town and the pertinent information it momentarily blocks. Is there a chance we can stop the green conversation from hovering on our screen when we have purposefully shut that window? If that green chatter were questions from newbs, or game related info, I wouldn't find it as much a nuisance as reading the daily catch ups of game friends, inside jokes, etc...

At one time I feared retribution from speaking up publicly in this game. I even felt bullied briefly, but as I've spent more time I've come to realize there is room for everyone. I have made real friends and we have some silly chatter in PM, our AC wanders into the absurd a lot too. I do not mean to offend anyone with my opinions, but I know the people who are 'guilty' of the chatter are good, helpful people and players with a great deal of knowledge.

Thank you Berserker and River for addressing this. The complaints people have made that touch on this topic have been at times melodramatic, and so dismissed. But, I know people who have completely given up on the game because they felt out of step with the mainstream here. I miss them still. Compromise is the greatest form of communication.

Maybe there could be a newbie chat window that doesn't need horns and have it connected to the novice protection.

Then new players could get to know each other and ask the questions that the rest of us have heard so many times.

I do wish we had a second alliance chat that could be for important information only and then an AC for the friendly banter.

I think private invite only chat for multiple players would be great.

I know it may be more work for the devs, but I like the idea of having both, the banter chat and invite only. Now there is much more interaction between alliances, having an invite only chat would be very useful.

Also slightly off topic but a private permanent( at least for a few days) bulletin board for alliance members only, that does not get lost when you log off, would be extremely useful for members to pass on important information to other alliance members.

It bothers me when  I have no idea what was discussed in my AC prior to my logging on.  I agree it would be helpful if we could scroll back further.

Iґve got an idea. There are players that are more interested in playing as in bantering. Some want both. Some are not interested what happened in chat while gone. Some want to be up to date what happend in chat while gone. There are 2 ways to solve this :

1. - Chat update everyday at 00:00 ( under circumstances may be a very very long chat )

2. - Implement an option in player profile in order to become the 24h chat. This way are some not annoyed with long chats and other up to date.

Coming into the middle of a conversation can be a little frustrating. Would it be possible to add a 24 or even a 12 hour chat record into the alliance window?   Instructions and plans could be posted there. I am now in an alliance with a big time difference and I feel I am missing a lot of conversation.

I think this would be extremely useful. This is a global game with players logging in at different times, so any important issues discussed in alliance chat may be lost by the time they get to play. Having a separate chat facility, sort of like a semi-permanent 'post-it' note, next to the alliance chat tab would be a very good way of passing on important info. Maybe just the alliance leader needs access to post stuff on it, as it doesn't need to be replied to.
