Artifacts and Item System Improvements

Artifacts and Item System Improvements

We decided to distract ourselves from bug-fixing and optimizations for a bit and work on new stuff for a change. Therefore, after releasing random caves, we began working on the item system. Today's update is the first glimpse at it - Artifacts!

What are Artifacts?

Artifacts are similar to regular equipment items wearable by your hero, except they have extra stats (up to five). The stats will allow you to make your hero even stronger if you can gather up powerful gear.

Artifact Traits

Artifacts add additional prefixes and/or suffixes to the regular item name depending on their power and traits. There are almost 100 different traits that could spawn on an artifact item, varying from a simple stat increase such as strength, to something more exotic - like a chance to pick up two items instead of one during your adventures. Not all of them are working though, so expect bugs.

Artifact Categories

There are five artifact categories divided by their power:

  1. Enhanced (power 1-17, blue)
  2. Enchanted (power 18-32, light blue)
  3. Rare (power 33-41, orange)
  4. Legendary (power 42-47, yellow)
  5. Godly (power 48-50, white)

Artifacts have been in the game for a while and some of you might have already seen some weird items with extra stats, but now they are official and there are a lot of possible modifiers.

Equipment Attrition

Along with artifacts, in this update we have added equipment attrition. The gear was not meant to be permanent, but instead it was meant to wear down after use. Now it does just that - slowly wears out. Later, when we implement repair, you will be able to fix worn-out items with proper hero perks. But for now it is not possible.

Item Spawning Revised

Before this update the chests often contained some pretty worthless items - you could easily get chicken legs inside a big golden chest - which was pretty discouraging. Now the chests spawn more items and should be more fair in terms of their content (including artifacts). The rewards from monsters have been revised as well - monters not always spawn rewards now.

Let us know in the comments below what kind of artifacts have you managed to find and where you got them. Also post how many chests you have opened since this update and how many artifacts you have obtained so we can understand how frequent and how well artifact spawning is working.

Hero level 50
Not paying much attention to who I send to battle. Usually 20 or so medieval foot units, some knights and nuns. I try to make the majority crossbowmen for the dragons. Four or five various items spawn each time a monster bunch gets killed. I only see dragons and worms.
Various items include learning speed-ups (bulbs vials computers that I would appreciate more if I could actually learn any more :) ) army power-ups, blueprints, figurines of learning, a lot of resources, some rage encaged, devil in disguise, etc. No chests have been opened because they require large amounts of fighting units or artistes, etc. (I am training units for this) I usually get two bulbs and vials in a set, but I have had two figurines with my blueprint. (that one surprised me). Raising level to obtain the goodies is definitely worth the effort.
Resources on the ground are larger now.

After several battles my armor is:
Royal Helmet 87%
Royal Shoulders 87%
Charlemagne Shield 84%
Lionhead Boots 97%
Royal Bottom 97%
Crusader Belt 98%
Forged Arms 90%
I guess I fight more than I travel :)

Are you interested in the non-battle chests?  The changes here have had quite an effect on low-level gameplay.

Yes, chests are interesting of-course, but no need to post with a single message about single chest your encounter - it will be hard to read and comprehend. Aggregate the information and post about multiple chests / enemies at once.

Every so often I come here to check on the progress of the game. It looks amazing! I can't wait to be able to play.

Berserker, can you please give me an update on the probability of playing this game on a Mac? I have asked multiple times and gotten no answer. I apologize in advance if this is not the forum for that question, but, like I said before ,no answer. I appreciate any updates. Thank you much .... Keep the totem tribe going!

I recently discovered that my Apa Dagger is no longer in Inventory's equipment. I suspect this is related to my level 4 Hero's latest resurrection--but what he was carrying when the dendrogs got him was a Spiky Club!

If this is expected behavior, that a random weapon will disappear rather than the one (if any) the Hero was carrying, this displeases me greatly. But if it's a bug, I'll willingly report it in the proper thread.

I think your apa dagger might have been disappeared because of this bug:

I'm running four heroes that have second towns (two of them only kept active to test the caves and artifacts).

They've had a large number of fights with dendrogs and small/medium muscards to tedious to record in detail and yielding no loot, and the one fight I posted recently that included one Big muscard and gave an artifact way above my level.

What I have noticed since the artifact update is a difference in the regular wooden chests often found lying around in second towns when monsters appear.  These are now frequently giving useful adventure items that clear obstacles - Torch twice, Bucket of Water (all at level 5), and just now a level 6 hero used 5 Snail Shells to get a Mystic Chisel.  None of these heroes had previously found any obstacle clearers.  This meant in particular that none of them had been able to explore Small Cave.
