When you pay for research at the Petroglyph it does not change the progress bar on the tech that is being researched. How can we tell that the extra research is being applied?

Ghera I ran into this issue as well. The petroglyph tasks increase the points over the time of the task. Check the progress bar after a while and you will definitely see the affect that the petroglyph has on your progress. I found that I needed to use petroglyph tasks throughout the learning process for best results.

That was my point. If you increase the Shrine and adjust the percentage bar, for example, you immediately see a difference in the predicted time for completion of the research. When you put the petroglyph to work you see no such adjustment.

You do see an immediate increase in the research points generated per hour with Petroglyph use. Just like when you upgrade production facilities, iron producing the most research points as far as I can tell. Theoretically, then, the additional points should reduce the research time. The increments are small enough, though, that early in the research you won't see a discernible difference.

When you hover over the progress bar for research, you see a time - to the minute - of when the research will be finished. If you then start a task at the petroglyph you should see a reduction in the time for completion, but you do not. I have checked this setting on the first task so as not to confuse the issue of being in the queue to research.

huh. That's weird. When you have a million research points needed the petroglyph doesn't give much more than 1-2% additional research points generated up to level 7. Don't quote me as I am going from memory. I know that I don't see much of a difference in the time until I've completed very large amount of the research, but I do see it, eventually. Based on your experience I can see why it's an issue, that's for sure. :-)

My understanding is that the task completes over a period of time. Therefore, the points are effected gradually over the time of the task. You would not see an immediate reduction as you do using other methods such as Treatise or blue vials.

I have also tried it on stone age research when it would be easier to see a difference.

It still should impact the COMPLETION time

It won't show right away. Level seven petroglyphs generate 1/10th of 1% to 1/5 of 1% of the total research points needed when only 1,000,000 points are necessary if my math is correct. It gets smaller in significance as points needed increase. That is why we need the library, I reckon. Oh boy.

Update: my math is corrected in the post made just before this edit immediately above.

I also had many questions about the benefits of petroglyph. It was not clear to me at all. But it does impact completion time. You cannot see it immediately. It effects over the period of the task. I have used petroglyph many times and I see quite a difference in the completion time over the period of the task.

I started researching Sailing 2 days ago. Today I built and upgraded the petroglyph in both of my towns and after each upgrade applied a task. Before I built them this morning I had 13 days 22 hours to go on my research, I've just checked my tech tree and it has now gone down to 11 days. Hopefully when I log in, in the morning the research time will be down to 8 or 9 days - but I'll let you know.

My research is now down to 8 days and 4 hours, and have my tasks qued in both of my Petroglyphs.

Thanks AnneeR. I have just applied 4.5 hours worth of petroglyph research and will see if it changes the anticipated finish when it is done. From what you are saying it sounds like it only applies it real time without adjusting the finish time.

Okay, now I am happy. It updates the completion time AFTER it has finished the research task. Wonderful!
