Plantation Question

I researched meditation, which said I could build a plantation to grow plants and trees to acquire resources like wine and spices, etc. but now I can't build the plantation because "I have no free appropriate strategic resource: spice". I thought the point of building the plantation was to grow those things. How do I acquire them if the resources require a plantation, and the plantation requires the resources?

World resources have to be within your border to have them. They are not something you grow but something you can utilize if they are within your domain.

May want to consider changing the wording for the plantation. "Allows to grow plants and trees to acquire some strategic resources" makes it sound like you build the plantation to grow those things, maybe use the word harvest instead of grow so people don't waste the time researching it if there are no resources anywhere near them. Just my opinion anyway.

There is a word you use when a resource is inside your domain? Seized? "Allows you to acquire and use strategic resources when seized such as ... ". This could be universal for any of the global resources available.

I don't think research is an issue here. The research for Meditation (which provides you with spice) is a prerequisite to other important items ... crops field, house, temple. This is the case for other global resources as well. The ability to use a global resource is a bonus that is attached to other necessary research and not exclusive.

I agree that it is confusing to the newbie.  I looked forward to getting horses as soon as it was researched and was disappointed that they had to be in my domain... But I found out that those who have these global resources can lease them to those who do not have them.  I am not sure how this works but it may be necessary to be in an alliance with them.   If it were not for the forum, I think I would have quit this game already.

You don't need to be in an alliance to borrow global resources ... such as horses .. A neighbor with a border touching yours can lend them to you. This is not a lease ... there is no compensation to the lender for this favor. :)

An alternative for obtaining a resource that is on the border is to battle for the border :)
