In later ages some buildings become locked , after these are locked you can't use these anymore. For example storages of first age lock when you get some upgrades from classical age.

I just saw this button on some buildings and was wondering why I should do that?
Some people actually want to take a building down. For example, you may want to take down the Nomads yard, in order to build a stable. You have to have researched demolition, in order to be able to do it.
