New player with older neighbors

Hello, I am a newer player surrounded on three sides with an avenue to water. I have recently been sending explorers out and discovered this yesterday, so I hoped to expand in this direction. Today I looked at the map and see that my larger older neighbor has just expanded into this area with a town.

I have not been able to learn expansion yet and my learning is taking days for everything. And yes, I have expanded the library to level 10, my food, forest and stone production to levels 7 or eight, and expanded my storage to 14-18 so far to no avail. I feel very frustrated. I am about to be confined to a very small region, perhaps with no access to water, and there is nothing I can do about it.

I am really frustrated. Is there any way forward for me at all?

You can start another hero and see if you land in a better spot.  Other than that, I can't think of any other way unless your neighbors accommodate you. 

Thank you both. I received that advice from someone else as well, so I have re-started with a new hero. I wish there was a better way to see where I have "landed," though. I don't want to find myself too close to others a second time. I am guessing there is a good reason for the obscurity, but it is an added challenge when beginning.

You could use one of your Speaker Horns to post your location, with both sets of coordinates, on the Common chat and ask to be PMed by any players surrounding you.
