Fireball it is only people who don't have access to a constant internet connection blowing off steam.  The moaners have taken what Berserker has said and twisted it to suit their own agenda and have made absolutely no allowances for the fact that English is not his first language and because of this people are mistakenly taking his comments as rude or cheeky, which we all know he's not.  And sure even if he was - we are all entitled to have bad days ;) .

Yeah, that conversation back in the days forced me to be more careful with my clumsy English :)

I have to say that I used to buy stuff from Big Fish... until I realised that they only churn out games that last for a few hours of play and have little re-play value, and tend to be a bit same-old-same-old after a while.

Personally I'd rather come here and deal with the potential issues of having to play online and get 20 times the game than go to Big Fish and play offline.

Plus, for the money you spend on BF games even during sales, you may as well come here and play for free. Better bang for your buck!

Portals like BFG back in the days were a good place for different kinds of casual games. Some of them was pretty innovative and provided a lot of replay value. But that was before Hidden Object craze. Then they realized that they could spit out only HOGs to milk their audience and maximize their profits, they did so and never looked back.

Unfortunately original Totem Tribe was released after HOG craze was in effect. That's why it brought only tiny fraction of potential money, and BFG just choked TT1, giving it 0 coverage. If that game released year earlier, we would have made 10x or even 100x more money.

Those events resulted into some serious decisions like distributing TT2 ourselves and making it free to play and online.

I was wonder struck by these comments, Berserker is never rude just some misunderstanding. But you should be a little conscious before typing in, my first language is not English also.

@ nana - I remember you from the BF forums :) and I also stopped buying games from Big Fish as they did nothing but release more of the same.

Yes, actually that's what turned me off. Every second game is a HOG, it has two or three hours worth of play, and the "collector's editions" may add on another 20 minutes. I don't enjoy HOGs because they get tediously monotonous - it always starts outside a building/yard, with a car parked outside, and a hunt for X until you can find whatever you need to open the gate... and then it spirals after that. They produce those at a ridiculous rate, which is unfortunate because I really enjoyed the Drawn series which showed that game designers there really do have imaginations. I also find it unfortunate that many game developers end up offering their stuff exclusively to BF which means you can't get it from anywhere else. I really like to avoid giving money to BF when a good game comes along. What BF are basically doing is discount marketing, aiming for volume rather than quality. Nowadays if I want a game I first look to see if it's available from the developer directly, or look at the many 'bundle' sales that are popping up lately. I can understand why you don't want to continue a relationship with them. @Fireball

To be fair, my initial reaction to being told the game was online only was roughly the same as theirs. I do think there was a lot of confusion, but for me I was just annoyed that I can't really play at my leisure. I'm not into RPGs or multiplayer, and mostly I'm concerned about eating up a chunk of bandwidth. The more I read about the game though, and the more I saw the huge changes and developments, the more I changed my mind. I think people may have gotten annoyed for good reason, and I hope that those reasons haven't put everyone off.

@Anneer Are you sure that was me? My username has been 'changed' in the transfer to the new site (it was na3) because it apparently can't handle numbers... I think I may have posted once or twice on BF, so I doubt it was me.

Actually they used discount marketing back in the days to kill off the competition. Back in the days there was a number of portals that had roughly comparable audience sizes. Then BF started (and won) the price war and now it has like 90% of downloadable casual games market and can set their own rules. Naturally they produce what is most profitable to them (endless HOGs that last couple of hours) like a fast food. And developers more than happy to give exclusives to them, cause this means slightly higher revenue percentage from the market that is mainly consists from BF website anyway.

The casual downloadable market is doomed and BF killed it. Now they are feeding off the dead body.

The good thing is, a lot of their audience which was not too much into gaming initially, after getting accustomed to casual games starting to look for a little bit more elaborated gaming experience, beyond typical HOGs and time-management games found on BF. And they keep looking and find games like Totem Tribe and developers like us.

This is our priority audience - traditional casual players (mostly middle-age and elder females) that are a bit more skilled than typical HOG player and wants deeper experience. The other types of players, like young hardcore male players are important too, but they are not as sensitive and can accept different kinds of gameplay. If we will make Totem Tribe II: Jotun comfortable for our priority audiance, everyone else will be enjoying this game as well.
