I was just wondering about the way that the "Ages" are ordered on the technology tree and why they are not historically in the correct order. The order on the Tree is Dark Age Stone Age Antiquity Medieval The correct order should be Stone Age Antiquity Dark Age Medieval Or you coud just call the first age - The Beginning, but given that its not really maybe New Beginning or New Dawn or something like that.

I guess Dark Age is not a proper name for the time before Stone Age, as there was period in human history called that way. I like your New Dawn Age proposal.

New Dawn sounds a little too much like the age of the aquarius... it sounds a little too modern.

Modern in a way is good, because the game is set on a different planet colonized by humans long ago and then all knowledge was lost and you have to start from scratch repeating the same history of development again.

I think though if you're starting from the beginning of human history, and naming the ages after the human ones, then it gets a little confusing to use 90% human ages and 10% made up ones.

Okay, so do you have alternative name proposals? :)

Hmm, yes broke my rule there of always including a suggestion after a criticism... Hmmm, after some brief googling, maybe Pre-historic would be best. I kind of like the idea of "cradle" but that's a bit too obscure to use.

I thought we had all this age naming discussion a long time ago. Wasn't it decided that historically accurate didn't really matter as it's a game! But I do like prehistoric

Pre-history and Stone age are the same thing. When the game starts and we speak to Gromus he is aware of what the planets history is so the age cant really be called Pre-history. But would love to hear other ideas :)

Not exactly... I spent a little time on Wikipedia looking at the timeline/cultural epochs. It is more complicated than just 'stone age' and pre-history, but yes you are right they are basically lumped in together. The thing is though that most people won't think of it as the same thing... Anyway it's one of the reasons I liked "cradle", because it suggests a beginning, without necessarily being a human/Earth beginning. I don't know... I'm just making stuff up at this point ;)

Well it kind of is the same, I have an honours degree in history and archaelogy and the Stone Age is broken into 3 different eras, Paleolithic - during this stage Homo Sapiens emerged in Aftrica. Mesolithic which marked the end of the last Ice Age and finally Neolithic - when farming was developed and animals were first domesticated. This is followed by the metal ages, copper, bronze and iron (also called pre-christian) and finally the Dark Age/Medieval period, which covers the 5th - 15th centuries. Then comes the Renaissance and Reformation (14th - 17th centuries). That is why I suggested New Dawn or New Beginning.
