Best Items to buy for research?

To get to industrial age within 40 days from a new character, should I buy encyclopedias or arithmometers?

Sorry, just curious, why you need to get to there fast? :) 

I think encylopedias are better at least if your science production is good enough. 

But build resource production, storage and defence as well.

maybe it is possible within 40 days but I do not think so, buy both items although for early research you will not need arithmometers to speed up to the 50 % mark, also increase resource production with power ups
