Blacksmith - How to apply upgrades

I've searched the forum & could not find an answer.  I did see that someone posed the same question in a different thread.

Once the blacksmith is built and an upgrade (for units not blacksmith) is available, how exactly do you apply the weaponry upgrade to units?  I tried it (selecting apply, then the upgrade, then unit) but the upgrade disappeared and I had to generate another one.

A walkthrough or how-to would be greatly appreciated :))

You select the unit you want to apply it to and the upgrade you want to apply, use the arrow to move the upgrade over to the unit. Yes it disappears because he is now wearing it. you will see he has become different in the unit window.
