Culture change

Did you guys make a culture change? My main town Tuey was at 362 culture last night but today she is only at 348 ( or at least she was before I built some more things). Also My second town chester had over 325 but is now at 316 or was when I noticed the change. Please let me know Thanks

It's corruption :)

Starting from 3rd town you are getting 5% penalty to culture and resurce income per town.

Oh i didn't notice this idea of corruption.

But from town to town you raise the additional number of needed cells. But with more towns it's not easier to reach this because the influence overlap.

2.Town need 1 settler and 40 cells (-3 cells per additional settler)
3.Town need 1 settler and 92 cells (-3 cells per additional settler)
4.Town need 1 settler and 150 cells (-3 cells per additional settler)
5.Town need 1 settler and 220 cells (-3 cells per additional settler)

So you need for 2. Town 40 cells.
for 3. town you need 52 additional cells.
for 4. town you need 58 additional cells.
for 5. town you need 70 additional cells.
maybe and so on.

And now corruption makes it harder too.

Yes, it is intended to lessen the convennience of further towns so you will focus on developing existing ones instead. The game designed to have like up to 10 towns in the endgame (like after 6 months), it's just now there is not much stuff to do in the early wersion of the game, that's why expansion looks so important currently.

l think there is an incredible incentive to expand as quickly and as widely as possible. There are resources out there ... wool, marble, horses, cattle, fur. I get the idea that if I don't expand and obtain these resources there will be no way for me to obtain them. I think that adding towns helps expand as fast as possible, even with the penalty percentage in place for three or more town, and makes the area stronger in defense. Also, expansion is not difficult until a neighbor crowds me. Once another player has obtained the space, it is next to impossible to expand in that spot. Obtaining the largest area in the beginning of the game seems essential ... so I want to keep adding towns..:)

I also have a question about trading resources. I assume if marble is within my expansion, I will develop mining or housing for this? But if it is unobtainable within my expansion, would I be able to trade ... for instance my wood for a neighbor's marble  ... if I do not have a building for it? I noticed that upgrading market further requires a mining resource I do not have.

Obtaining resources on the world map as fast as possible with fast expansion is not as obvoius as you may think, because there are over 30 different resource types unlocked as you research new technologies, so putting expansion later will allow you to aim for resources you haven't seen before. Plus advancing into next age will allow you to build more cultural buildings increasing your domain further. It's just currenltly only Stone Age available that's why such options are not conisdered.

Speaking about trading strategy resources on the world map - you will be able to lend it to your neighbor with the ability to cancel that lending withing 24 hours prior notice. With that mechanic you will be able to do any exchanges or donations of such resources to someone else.

As for the iron required for marketplace higher levels - iron is a fourth basic resources like food, lumber, and stone, and will be unlocked in classical age.
