expansion

You are very kind.  Thank you so much.  I'm probably one of the older players and feel a little slow sometimes.  I just turned 62 last week.  But play off and on all day

Wouldn't be possible that creation of a new town to depend on culture instead of number of cells? And yes, I know the culture is influencing the number of cells but the situation is different when you are surrounded.

No, but the expansion requirements will tweaked many times in the future until we find the right values.

Why not, is there a certain logic to this decision?

It's a design decision. Without this requirement, domain size will be useless and noone will be competing for cells.

Hmm i think nearly nobody is competing in cells because of expanding, i only would compete for global ressources and so there is no change.

And how should a competing for cells look like? You just could raise your culture faster than your neighbour. You can't crash his towns or culture-based-buildings. If you decide to expand this also means don't set your town next to a neighbour because your domain and cells will better grow at a complete free area.

Correction: you can't crash them in this version.

I have found sheep - which I would love to have - but there is a neighbor in the way of my expansion. It looks like this person has not been on in a while but the small dwelling remains between me and the resource. It is also in the way of my neighbors. Checking everyday there is no change in culture or population. Do we just plan to attack in the future or is there a time limit for the retention of idle dwellings in the game?

And if you could crash a town, it would be so easy to let someone build their new town and smash it after. Yes, they would revenge but they will have to start over with the settlers as well.

Can you actually destroy buildings in this version or at least downgrade them?

There will be inactivity limit for something like 7-10 days, maybe 2 weeks, after which idle countries will be removed. It is not enabled in alpha though.

It all depends on how easy it will be to crash buildings. Destroing 1-2 levels of some building of other player will not be too complicated. But burning all levels of some structure to the hilt will be harder. To destroy someone's town completely you will have to destroy ALL his/her buildings which will be quite complicated and time consuming - you will definitely will not be able to do it in one go even with a very large army and thus that person will have time to rebuild before you attack him second time. Not to mention truce items, defensive troops that can be garrisoned to him by his allies and so on. War will be hard for attacker, but some people what challenge, so it's ok.

On the other side, you don't need to destroy whole town. To reduce the borders of your rival neighbor all you need is to destroy a couple of culture-heavy buildings like the Totem Pole and his domain will shrink. That will be much easier to pull off than wiping the the town from the map completely, but also the player can rebuild easier as well.

As for destroying buildings currently - you can do so in this version, but only palisade and towers - use Primitive Rams in attack mode to get a feeling on how hard/easy it would be. For other buildings you would need catapults which will be available in Classical Age.
