Hero can either heal or harm, not both??

Before I declare this a bug, I think I'd better find out if it's an intended feature. In a recent battle against monsters, my hero Edgar Hysmith is shown in *, Report 875886, as healing Knights and Horsemen but not hitting Birdhouses.

Is this what the developers intend for our heroes? That they can hold weapons, and take perks related to them, but these will have no effect?

* Well, it's supposed to be a link! See http://www.totemtribe.com/bugs/view/no-report-link-copied/ for my complaint.

So should I be discounting the various "Hero attack" enhancements on items if I've got First Aid?

Would it make sense when a hero takes First Aid to give a rebate on any weapon Mastery perks?

What do you mean a rebate?

Allow the hero to switch perks that had been made useless w/o penalty.

Or if you think that's too generous, at least inform the player which perks are about to become useless, as ya'll do with some choices in the Tech Tree.

How hero perks become useless? By which criteria?

As I wrote in the first post of this thread;

This continues to be the pattern. How is it any use that Edgar's Totemic Shoulders give him Axe Mastery II if he never swings his Arabic Axe? Indeed, how is it any use that he carries the axe?

Here's the first round of a different combat, against 4 worms, from Report 915708. Notice that my hero heals a Caveman, but does not hit the foe: http://tinypic.com/r/2qsa1co/9

Try attacking more monsters and you will see that your hero attacks too. As any healing units, the hero has a limited number of healing points and a limited healing rate (this is what you increase with perks). Once it's out your average healing unit is out of the fight, but your hero will switch from healing to fighting.

So it's not "Heal, don't hit", it's "Heal if you can, hit if you can't heal". THANK you, ubique!

I can confirm this from observation in one recent battle: In 11 rounds against 6 small worms, my hero finally hit in the 11th round.
