Hook and digging...

Hi. Can any one tell me why I cannot dig up any of the spots with shovels and dirt? Also, I've been looking for the fish hook since I started my town. I know it's supposed to be in my main location but for the life of me I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated. Newbie here only had my town 5 days. Thank you...

you must find the real archeological tools to dig. there is a quest for that. the hook is in the upper right lying on the ground

Thank you for responding. I just went over the upper right area of the map clicking on everything and everything. Cannot find the hook.

if you have cleared all the fog well there, then you should not have to click on everything.

All smoke that can be cleared has been. All I do have is the ocean entrance on the right side of hill. Other side of hill only has the flower garden mini-game. No blasted hook sorry to say. Starting to get a bit frustrated...Oh well...
