This happens to me occasionally. I find that it only does it if I try to launch the game immediately on starting the computer and the Internet connection hasn't established properly yet. I have to wait a few minutes until the Internet is definitely established first before attempting to load the game.

The other thing I sometimes find is that there is a dialogue box open 'behind' the launcher that asks for administrator rights to be granted for the program to run.

Not sure if this is the same with you but if so, hope it helps

We are having this problem. Its been stuck on the checking  launcher update for a long time now,  close to 45 min. It has been like this for at least a week now.

yesterday I left it on, don't know how long and it finally went thu and did updates and then it started. But now its back to taking for ever to load. Why is this?

I just opened up the task manager and TT2 is not using the network at all. It is at 0 MBPS. It is allowed thru the firewall, I just checked that.

Aside from allowing the game in firewall/antivirus, it is important to open proper PORTS:

Ports can be blocked in ISP side too sometimes, so you may need to call and ask them if nothing works.

ISP is no help.  I don't have one of thier routers. I think I got it from my brother in law. it is an ATT modem and I have Centuryurlink.  It is a motorola 3360.  I called motorola and they want $30 for help (  out of warrenty) and couldn't guarantee a fix. He said I may find out how to fix that on the web, But that is no help,

Update,

I reinstalled the game, Like I did the other day and it worked for a little And it works, for now.... I guess that means its not the modem or ports....  I will try this and see what happens

I've had this same problem, normally after closing and restarting my computer a few times it will work. Today I couldn't get it to open ever. I did notice that it begins to initialize, then states "checking for launcher update...please wait...  The cancel button is red, then greys out.  Nothing works, I've checked my ports (I can play on my desktop but not on laptop) and have even re-installed Java and flashplayer. I've turned off my firewall and virus protection, nothing works. I've been playing on this laptop for over a month, so not sure why now today I can't.  Any help would be appreciated.

I've looked in the log and I get this error message: UDP_ERROR_ALERT: UDP error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it  from: 5.61.7.71I've changed multiple settings, I'm not sure why this is happening.

It is clear that there is some kind of connection error, but impossible to figure out whether it is firewall/antivirus, your ISP, or some other program (could be even trojan/virus). Some antiviruses are tricky and keep working even after you've seemingly disabled them.
