Minor SPOILERS ahead.
I received an invite from playing other Enkord games, I had never played TT1 or TTG. This wasn't a huge disadvantage, but it was there. I've now played consistently for two weeks and wanted to share a true newbies findings.
The tutorial was great, easily showing me what I needed to do to get my town rolling. The only thing that felt missing was hero development. Seeing 10 exp rewards pop up here and there felt like a solid achievement until I realized it was just a drop in the bucket for what I needed. Luckily for me weeding the garden "clicked" and I got that huge exp boost from completing the first stage. In order to retain players coming from a more "action" background when this game is live I would suggest spreading the rewards out from the first few levels into smaller chunks so hero development feels like it's progressing as much as your town.
I've been dealing with world fog since Civilization, so it's always a priority for me to get it gone! Before I stepped foot into the Opposition Hideout I had entered the first two caves. They feel completely backwards to me. Without a chisel you cannot complete the first cave, but the second only requires some logic and eyes. If I had not already uncovered the second cave I may have felt clearing the fog was pointless early in the game.
I'm blushing as I admit it, but the wade in the Opposition Hideout had me stumped. Yes, I saw the depleted rock giving the intended clue, but I took it as simply a sign that building was restricted to your town. Perhaps the message for the wade itself could change if clicked multiple times, something like, "maybe your town could supply you some resources?". Keepers Village flat out tells you that you'll need 1500 wood to bridge all three gaps, why tell us blatantly there, but not in the Opposition Hideout?
I really enjoyed Keepers Village. I'm still missing some banana's to get some more monkey's, but I was able to find all three bridges and the secret chest just by looking around. The third bridge was a fluke for me though, it could be much clearer. I broke down for the first time and had to search the forum for a solution to the puzzle, and still don't really understand how 8 didn't really equal 1, it equaled 4.
My last newbie mistake deals with storage. I was at a point where project X took long enough that I was reaching storage limits on other resources. Well, I went and upgraded the supply tents in Heralds, Opposition Hideout, and first two Caves multiple times to use as extra storage space and filled them all up. Later I got to a point where I could use some stone to work on another project and tried to ship some of that stone back. Yeah, that doesn't work. I now have resources "stuck" at places it will never be used. On a positive note, this is how I got across the wade! Ha!
TL;DR - Good game with only a few frustrating moments. 8/10, would eat with rice.
