New proof of the Precursors!

Journal Entry 463-2
.
.
All my searching, all my work, all these countless hours have finally paid off! I mapped yet another peninsula on this strange world and began exploring its' depths to reveal whatever adventure, treasures, or other kingdoms it may contain when I stumbled on to something wondrous!
.
A persistent wall of fog remained despite all my efforts; no amount of torches, mammoth bonfires, or the clearest skies could penetrate that inky gloom. After exhausting all magical and mundane means at my disposal I pressed on through the fog; stumbling around for what seemed an eternity the fog slowly dissipated and I found myself in the normal countryside I had been exploring these past weeks. Turning my gaze back to the fog I now noticed it marched straight to the north on one side, while to the south I noticed a slight change as it continued in a southeasterly direction.
.
Being the explorer that I am, and having already been mapping this peninsula with my cartography tools I decided to chart this wall of fog to see where it would lead, surely great treasure awaited me. And treasure I did find, not in the physical form I had at first expected, but something far, far greater. I have finally found my proof of Precursor Knowledge, working as intended (though I cannot fathom its' use) all these years later! I must show this to Gromus and Kanen, perhaps they can make sense of what I have found!

TL;DR - I made a giant smiley face out of the fog and roleplayed 'finding' it.

Gromus and Kanen both claim the image I have uncovered is that of the Precursors, though neither have insight beyond that. Kanen convinced me to trade my original work for a copy; he treats the map as if it were a holy relic. I begin to wonder if he will be of any further use. Gromus keeps falling back on the same 'advice' he has been giving me for what feels like ages, keep studying what I've found and continue to search for Precursor knowledge. Why must he persist at talking in riddles? Just once I would like a plain answer to my questions!
.
I am frustrated. It feels like this work was for naught.

My hands won't stop shaking, the Face I uncovered was not THE clue but only A clue! I came across more of this strange fog, and immediately began to chart its' path. This was not an isolated picture as the face, but what eventually revealed itself as three separate designs, a star flanked by two arrows pointing upwards. What could this mean? First the Face, and now look to the stars?

What can this mean? How can I understand this message? I should know, but don't know WHY I should know! I have found a third clue, the final clue the Precursors left for me. It reads 'exit', but why do I know this? How can I read a language I don't know?

I've cracked the code! I now believe I understand what these images mean; The Precursors traveled to the stars using some type of machine! I searched the area the last symbol pointed towards and found a strangely familiar statue. It contains a slot that my Amulet of Kolyada fits perfectly, but nothing seems to happen. I must find a way to recharge it!

I approached Gromus with my theory and my proof. He seemed visibly shaken by this all. I have tried to convince him that I will defeat the God-Emperors, but that I will not give up on finding a way back from where I was taken. Why can he not understand I did not choose this, he brought me here without my consent!
.
I demanded he reveal the location of the Secret Library, and he seemed offended that I do not believe him when he pleads ignorance. They hide in their cave and do nothing! I will find it myself. I will defeat the God-Emperors myself. I will find a way back home myself. I will not ask his advice again, he has gone too long without aiding me in any way.

Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it! This was a fun (though challenging) project.

Have had folks asking how I accomplished these designs, so here goes:

Step 1: send explorers to outline the edges of a peninsula, leaving the center covered by fog. this lets you know how much room you have to work with

Step 2: decide what design will "fit" in that area, and find the dimensions of the fog (height and width of the cells)

Step 3: using a grid, chart the design you want. here's the one I made: http://i.imgur.com/7M1N2f3.jpg

I put a blue dot in each square that I wanted to be uncovered fog, and then added red dots as I explored to show what cells I had revealed. Example: http://i.imgur.com/XheY4yJ.jpg

I was able to explore the inside sections of the face/exit sign by laying down the design in a way that an individual town that had been opened from trading was placed on a cell that was not part of the border. This way I could work the inside without having to have a break in the outline. For the part to the right of the T in the exit sign, an alliance member explored into that area. I then cleared a cell in that part, and then left the alliance temporarily. This removed the part that was explored from the alliance member, and I rejoined after finishing that part and taking screen shots.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to make designs while exploring. :)
