First of all, I want to thank you all for your desire to help! Translation would not be possible without your good will.
I’ll explain what we are planning to do. And what to expect next.
First, if you are interested in helping with proof-reading, mail me, please. After the first part translation will be over (it may take one month or more), we will give this part for those who want to do some proof-reading.
First of all, we have about 27000 lines of text with more than 300 000 words for translation. The translator group consists of two people and translation will take time. These people are professional university teachers and are skilled and competent in German language, but we are not sure how appropriate their translation will be. So, any of you who wants to join the effort, please contact me and if everything is OK, after 10% of translation will be done, you will get text for proof-reading. This way we can get rid of any misunderstandings or inappropriate translation, most of the possible errors and typos, and other issues.
If all goes according to plan, after you finished proof-reading and we analyze your feedback, we will give the second part for translation while you may change your mind or plans or on the contrary someone else will join the proof-readers team. Then same thing will be done with the next part, then with the next until last fifth part will be finished. And after final errors check, file will be given to main developer team for adaptation, integration and final correction. Then translation into German for Totem Tribe II will be released in the game itself!
We don’t have deadline for the whole work. But most definitely it will take months. We are not sure about the best proof-reading option and there are two approaches here – individual proof-reading for only the selected part of the translation or team collaboration working with whole translated part.
In more details. First option is to give selected part to each one for proof-reading and afterwards putting parts together. And considering your feedback to the quality of the translation give it back to translators together with your recommendations. For this option, you’ll need to do proof-reading of all by yourself in your free time, it’s not limited but yet – process cannot last forever.
Second approach is team collaboration. After translation of first part all who want to help proof-reading it will get the access and you all will work together in Google Spreadsheets. This is more fluent option but as it always happens – some will do most of the job, while others – not so much. Yet, as we are very limited with time and resources here, collaboration seems the best option.
Both approaches have their cons and pros and I would like to hear your opinion, which one you like more?
