Request to testers: Classical Age journal

1 2 3

12 July 2914

A snapshot of my country one month into the Classical Age.

Only one hero for this stage. She is Communality, level 30.

Started Classical Age with Mining then Polytheism, Strategy, Sailing, Masonry, Iron Working, Writing, Bronze Working, Optics, Cartography and Siege. All these took a total of 30 days research time with Siege using 6 days.

Currently researching Mathematics which will take 4 more days to complete.

There was no more than 6 hours downtime between one tech finishing and the next starting.

Main Dwelling:

Gardens 4 @ 9, 1 @ 10, Shed @ 20, Cropfield (promoted) 1 @ 7, Pantry @ 8

Forestries 3 @ 9, Shed @ 19, Felling (promoted) 1 @ 5, Pantry @ 8

Stone Fields 3 @ 9, Shed @ 18, Quarry (promoted) 1 @ 5

Iron Camps 4 @ 8, Pantry @ 20

Library (promoted) 20%, 37,980 pts, Petroglyph @ 9

Used petroglyph sometimes but it used so much stone.  Found library far more useful to reduce research time.

Town 2:

Gardens 3 @ 9, 3 @ 8, Shed @ 15

Forestries 4 @ 5, Shed 18

Stone Fields 4 @ 5, Shed @ 18

Iron Camps 4 @ 5, Pantry @ 20

Library (promoted) 17%, 20,043 pts, Petroglyph @ 7

This town is bugged. Was supposed to be a seaside town but looks like an inland town. Was settled on cell next to the sea but unable to build a harbour here. Everything else is working normally so town is useful for country expansion.

Town 3:

ALL Classical Age structures built from scratch here.

Cropfields 5 @ 3, 1 @ 4, Pantry @ 12, Crop Shed @ 9

Fellings 4 @ 3, Pantry @ 19, Wood Shed @ 12

Stone Quarries 3 @ 4, Pantry @ 19, Stone Shed @ 8

Iron Camps 2 @ 3, 3 @ 2, Pantry @ 18

Library 10%, 9900 pts

Harbour successfully built here. Upgraded to lvl 5. Doing plenty of naval trading.

Tamed 2 crocodiles here.

One chest unable to be opened. Needs 10,000 units of Iron but town storage maxed out at 8,400 units.

Town 4: (settled yesterday)

ALL Classical Age structures built from scratch here.

Cropfields 7 @ 1, 2 @ 2 @, Pantry @ 5, Crop Shed @ 5

Fellings 2 @ 3, 1 @ 2, Pantry @ 7, Wood Shed @ 3

Stone Quarries 2 @ 3, Stone Shed @ 3

Iron Camps 1 @ 2 with 2 more Ore Deposits not upgraded yet.

Library 6 %, 3,000 pts

Tamed a hippopotamus here.

Summary:

Total science points being used for all 4 towns currently at 70,923 points per hour.

Could also raise hero to level 31 but cost is 3 figurines. Too expensive, with no real advantage.

Monster battles proving very profitable with many blue liquid vials and flasks helping to reduce the research time and also have 2 blueprints from these battles.

At the present rate of research time, I estimate it will take more than another month to complete the rest of the classical age techs.

Yes, they never hurt. They will be taken into account when I will be reducing research time for alpha 4, although I would like to have them compilted like progress for a week or several weeks.

Here's the first week in Classical Age !

I've made a google doc, so it's easier to read: Classical age's journal

Sorry, during the first days, I was unsure as to what would be appropriate to write down and I forgot some things ^^. I didn't participate for Alpha 1 and 2, so it's very accurate for beginners (for example, now I know what buildings I should have upgraded first, but instead, I went very linear with all my upgrades).

Important to know: I work at home, so I can keep my TT2 window opened. It means I can upgrade regularly. A more casual player will take more time to upgrade everything ;). By the way, it would be nice to be able to choose options for the highlighting in the task bar (I needn't the highlight for everything ! I'd like to have it for just the end of an upgrade or friend's requests ! It's very bothering to have your bar flash for every information :p).

And just 2 screens, because I'm unsure where to post them because it's very minor; the code thingies (I don't know how to say "balise" in english...) appear in the text instead of making it appear as it should be:

Confirmation plantation

Confirmation quarry

I'll update it once a week for the whole Classical Age. If you need information about something else, let me know, I'll add a column :D

Monkeys are proving to be very useful spies.

Best monster drop this week was a large bag of grains worth 850 food.

Petroglyphs will no longer be used to reduce research time. Will upgrade these buildings to increase culture points.

Why?

The petroglyphs use too much stone and only seem to give a temporary reduction in the research time. The libraries give a permanent reduction in research time without using up the valuable stone.

Yes, but the library also cost resources, you are setting the percentage, thus reducing your income. The petroglyph is more expensive and requires regular action though.

I agree, that they use a lot of stone, that is why I only activate all of them before I go to work and before I go bed. Having the time the last one finishes, is very helpful. this way I can plan better.

End of week two in classical age, [url=https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xmhS0_CdVbjWxXiIjiOKIrRFVjJcDV_lGZTGvohhcSo/edit#gid=0/]google doc updated[/url] :)

My hero is now level 4, I'm upgrading my ressources as much as I can. Trying to grow army, culture et population as much as I can. I seized marble and spice, hoping to get fur and cattle soon. Trying to get horses, but they're still far away :(.

My army can get inside the fog in town 3, but the fog doesn't get away (bottom of map), it's funny. What's strange is that my brave hero seems to have adopted a snake in this part of the fog without me doing anything ^^.

Please tell me if you need more information for the second half of my journal :)

PS: the buttons for links and images don't work. Sorry, my bbcode doesn't work here :p

If they are going under the fog not in the blue glow area where is the exit from the location, then it's a bug and you need to post screenshot with a breach. Use F2 hotkey to enable pass map and locate the breach, thanks. Submit as separate bug report.

These are my thoughts on the journey to and thru classical age. Della doesn’t really count for this. I feel the trip thru Stone Age really was quick. You barely have time to build a few of the buildings earned before you are on to more. One thing I find in this stage is that there are so many things to build and a short time to build it all. So I now always research Iron as my first item into classical, to get more resources to put towards research. I then go to polytheism for the ability to build up crop fields, food being a priority for me. After that I research writing for the extra crop shed then strategy for more wood and then Masonry. Beyond that it becomes more a matter of what I prefer then what I feel is needed to progress well (meaning more resources equal faster research). I really hate the research where I have to make a choice, I find it very tough to choose. It is hard for me to say what I prefer yet as I haven’t had time still to really explore the options given by the choices I made. If you wanted stats from this I did not write them down. I am answering more the question of my thoughts on the journey so far.

So do you think Stone Age is too short on its own, or is it more like too short comparing to Classical Age?
