Tesla puzzle

I must be really really dumb. I can't figure out this puzzle for the life of me. I got one light placed, phew, then I placed another one and it broke. I have no clue as to why. Can some one try to give me some kind of help please?

The one battery that you placed your bulb next has three possible spots to place your one bulb. Your quest is to find which one is the right one.
The squares light up in a straight line pattern. Once a square is lit up it cannot have a bulb placed in it.

Look at the path for the (popped) bulb spot you chose. The battery catty corner to your popped bulb needs a bulb to be placed next to it. Because of the square you chose to place your bulb, the squares in both directions would light up - and there would not be a bulb spot remaining for that battery.

Started new hero, quest log says talk to Tesla, Tesla says come back in 18 hours, puzzle completed 7x8.  

My bigger hero finished puzzle a while ago, Telsa talks to me every few goes, the first 3-4 times he gave out 1000 xp, he stopped doing that?

Thanks for fixing Bug where he talked to you every time you entered town, it was driving me nuts, I hope never to see that one again :)

Completed at 19x20. Tesla gives proper responses. Responses stop for a while after 10x10. But the field still grows.

Thanks, Mackeral, you answered my question.  I've completed 10 x 11 and now know there is more.  In my own opinion, I love the puzzle.   When it starts getting too big to do by eye, i drew a simple copy on graph paper and just by putting 'X's where bulbs cannot go, I can refer to that and the computer version and solve it correctly without guessing.  I don't always need the graph paper now, but it's handy if I do.

At which expansion is that puzzle solved ? I'm now at 12x13, and after 10x10 Tesla doesn't talk anymore. When will he keep on talking with me again ?

The maximum size is 20x20 . So, keep solving...:-)

Damn you Telsa, you can only get the reward out of him, when the puzzle is ready to do, but not done.

Talking to him after, all you get is the come back in xx hours and xx minutes.  So, zero bulbs, talk to Tesla, get reward.
