In the nearby future: moving from Alpha 8 to Beta 1

Next version of the game we are planning to launch will introduce some fundamental changes into the game so it is worth explaining it in advance.

Totem Tribe II: Jotun is reaching a more stable phase and we are going from Alpha 8 to Beta 1 with the next wipe. Exact wipe will be announced at least a week in advance, but you have at least 1 month from this moment until it will be launched.

There will be both new features and some deep underlying changes which may affect the way you play the game, so let's talk about our plans with a little bit more detail

New Content

We have plans to add the following next content for Beta 1:

  • Thornsville - new quest location which moves the main storyline forward. You will meet mysterious Mr. Thorn and will spend a night in his legendary mansion wondering who he is and what his true goals are.
  • New set of dungeon-like randomized locations with a quest which unites them - the dungeons received high acclaim from our users so we decided to add something similar. The monster dens were well-regarded for the fact that you can return to them multiple times so these locations will have something that you can return to later even if you have beaten the location.
  • New minigame - now the quest won't have an associated character so you don't have to talk to anyone - let us know if it is a good decision or a bad one. Did you like minigame characters like the Gardener, Tesla, Steve Perfectionisto, and Billy Bonkas or you would rather have minigames without them?
  • Movement Surprises - have to keep it secret, just going to tell you that World Map will become even more exciting.
  • Zoryana's Diplomatic Advisor Quests - she will teach you how to get along with other players and eventually join an alliance. This should be helpful to those players who are not very aware of the multiplayer side of the game.

Changes

The global game sessions in Beta 1 will be different from what it was in Alphas:

  • No longer are there going to be regular global wipes, the game would play like it has been planned initially - players will have their individual timers of around 5 month since the time they started their hero/kingdom
  • This will put all players in fair condition, because right now when someone joins close to the wipe he is having less time to play versus those players who started in the beginning of the alpha. This is especially hurtful to attracting new players as it made no sense to do that right before the wipe. Hopefully it will allow the game to grow more.
  • Close to the wipe time the particular player will start getting warnings at least 1 month in advance to urge him to reach one of the victory types or he will be destroyed by the cataclysm.
  • The warnings and the individual wipe would be scripted like a coming doomsday with mad prophets preaching and other signs showing in your towns so it will be fun to experience story-wise in case you didn't make it.
  • All items purchased with Enkord Cash and spent a month before the cataclysm will be returned if you decide to start anew to make your rush towards victory in front of impending doomsday less hurtful in case you fail to make it in time - you will use those items again in your fresh new start. That's in addition to all your unspent purchased items and Enkord Cash.
  • To make it even better, you will be getting those items purchased with Enkord Cash back if you spent them a month before any kind of defeat, not just the one caused by cataclysm. Specifically in cases when you were wiped by other players.
  • All those refunded items are in addition to the normal Second Wind and Loyalty packages you are usually getting.
  • The positive outcome of this is after Beta 1 launch it won't be so crowded anymore like with each new alpha start.

That being said, it does not mean there will be no global wipes, the Beta 1 is still not a final game, a lot of content is still missing and some new content might require doing a total wipe someday, but with Beta 1 launch we will start to add everything via updates that allow everyone to play on.

I do enjoy the minigames and like them both with and without the characters and story but I do feel that some of the dialogue is a bit too repetitive especially with Billy Bonkas and can at least be reduced a little. Also it isn't always convenient to make my hero change towns in order to be able to play the candy game and consequently I don't play it every day even though I really like it.

I am really looking forward to the new content, I totally love the dungeons, caves and dens and wish I could spend more time doing all the quests (with the exception of talking to everyone trying to get them to mention Disidiana, I agree with SandySue there, Ugh!) but alas building walls, towers and defensive troops ends up taking priority over everything else.

By the way, if the mad prophets aren't carrying signboards saying ... THE END IS NIGH ... and ...  PREPARE TO MEET THY DOOM IN 30 DAYS ... with the number changing daily, I will be disappointed  ;-) :D

Overall, I like the proposed changes to the game. My only thought about the 5 month time limit is that it is too short for the casual player that does not spend huge amount of hours here. And after one or two tries at a victory, they will get discouraged and not return.  For me, 5 months is fine, but I spend a huge number of hours playing and advance much faster. I just think that maybe 30% of the players are like me and 70% are casual type players. You really should target the larger group.  It won't deter people like me, we can still "win" and be deleted even if we are given more time than we need.

As to the mini-games - I do not mind the dialogue, I like and play the Gardener, Tesla often.  I LOVE the candy puzzle the best, but HATE that I have to have my hero in town to start it. Occasionally forcing us to speak with him is fine. Every 18 hours is too much.  I do not play the tile puzzle.  I understand it, but don't like it. just not my thing. I do look forward to any new puzzles that we may get.

I love this idea. or a town Crier, or father time, a crazy witch. but the Mad Prophet with a sign is perfect.

I love all the mini games and I do not mind the dialogue, but being able to skip the "how to play" part is good when you already know the rules.

I also agree that it is annoying that I cannot play the candy game without having my hero in town, if that requirement could be dropped, that would be wonderful.

Very much looking forward to the new mini game.

I do like the mini games and I don't mind some of the dialogue.  I really don't like having to move my hero though in order to do one.

Is the game going to be opened up for a larger number of players and/or what efforts will be made to attract a larger audience?

We have some partners willing to drive users here for a share of revenue, to do this our current mode with simultaneous wipes does not work, because it is pointless to drive users when they will have only 1 month to play before starting over. Beta with individual wipes should work much better in that regard and will allow us to do more in terms of promotion.

Will we get a choice of area on the world to start over? I kinda miss my Zombie Snowmen and the penguins, plus could you make the Polar Bear worth 5 if the same fish instead of 10.

"To make it even better, you will be getting those items purchased with Enkord Cash back if you spent them a month before any kind of defeat, not just the one caused by cataclysm. Specifically in cases when you were wiped by other players."I think this is a good move. It would make being wiped by another player(s) less devastating and painful. I think players would be more willing to spend money on defense if they knew it would not be wasted and would be returned if they were wiped.

Not initially, but maybe some time later.

hi there. I stopped playing for a few months due to being busy but I'm planning to start again when Beta 1 comes out. Could you please tell us an approximate date when you'll launch it? thanks in advance ;)

As always - no promises. We are trying to make it as soon as possible, but can't tell for sure. Hoping it would be something under a month but don't treat it as a word.

I would like a second chance to get a puzzle when it shows up first in a "jumper/temp " town which will be deleted

honestly, I dont like these 5 months, many players who are not so active, and someone (like me) does not like to rush, and this limitation will spoil the dynamism of the game...
