Anyone motivated to start a serious wiki ?

1 2

For those who are interested in working on that, I encourage you to:

- first take the names of those who are interested in 1. help with the concept and 2. work on the wiki.

- With group 1 and 2: take the time to discuss ideas on how the site should be constructed (what general sections, what secondary sections, how it should be presented etc). To do that, you can use IRC (for example, Quakenet, very simple).

- With group 2, construct the main page (in which you should have the links for the general sections).

- construct the general sections (in which you should have on top page the links for the secondary sections, or make tabs)

- Ask group 1 and Devs for approval, see if there's something to change.

- Finally: you can go to work and fill the sections :)

PS: keep in mind you're working to help others. Think about what people would like to find, how you would like to find your answer. Would you like to search by quests ? By locations ? By Items ? By construction ? If I have a question about my hero, would I search by perks ? by abilities ? by combat ? etc etc :D

PPS: sorry... but I have to add: it is A LOT OF WORK and MAINTENANCE ! So, if you want to do it properly, be prepared :p

I offer to help with the initial organizational aspects of the effort.  I have a lot of experience in developing implementation plans of all kinds of things, if someone wants my help.

Personally, I went back and forth on the concept but then realized with the complexity of the game, starting now is probably a good idea.

What I think would be most helpful would be if someone has and FTP site that we could start totally off line in the effort.

Anyway, count me in at some level and in whatever role works best for folks.

It seems the Wiki is down, or did i just got anything wrong?

Berserker: what do you think of a wiki now? Is the game more stable than 10 month ago?

You can judge it by yourself: http://www.totemtribe.com/talk/tt2-update-log/

I'm willing to help with proofing, editing, or whatever needs to be done.  I've been proofing and editing transcripts as part of my job as a court reporter/stenographer/closed captioner for many years.

Well it looks like the wiki that was created no longer works.

For now we can gather more information, make some threads with those information, then ask berserker to add those threads in this thread: http://www.totemtribe.com/talk/guides-tips-hints-and-other-helpful-info-about-totem-tribe-ii-jotun/

Until release, then there can be a wiki that should be updated.

But some threads from the Guides and Tips thread need some big updating, which nobody is doing. Like this one, http://www.totemtribe.com/talk/guide-of-domains-and-expanding-1561/ many numbers like the corruption %s are off.

And now we have this that we can add to that thread. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16FBcaibgijN6yzP0m8Uy0EwTk4yI2OCiT1l9xA8gzjU/edit#gid=1729100604

This spreadsheet is not accurate. She inferred the cell growth. That is why the culture list in the other thread only goes so high. I wanted facts there not inference.

I second the idea to make guides as forum threads. Here it will be much more helpful for players who can easily search the website + ask questions right away. Starting the wiki will make sense only when there will be so many guides here that it will be hard to manage (which does not look like going to happen anytime soon). Plus forums here means the information will not get lost due to some random reason (like service suspended or some wiki admin went rogue and deleted everything).

This sheet is derived from game folder data and I check it after every major update. These are the general rules, it is impossible to take into account other factors that influence culture growth, which are specific for every player.

I will initiate the wiki page if more than a handful agree it would be worth it, plus I will start with only a beginners page for those not reading the forums. It will NOT include what berserker puts on the loading page, people should read those daily. Let me know people....

I will start with only a beginners page for those not reading the forums.

Beginners should be encouraged to read forums. :)

My thoughts are that if the information necessary to play this game is not obtainable on this site, then we should suggest/develop better organization of that information. I may be wrong, but tend to feel that ownership of site (Enkord) should be 100% decision as to whether one or more of us puts Enkord property on a public site.

Originally I had thought the idea of a Wiki as a good idea (and maybe it should still exist as a concept page only), however now, being more knowledgeable, I agree with Simba.

The game is in a state of flux during development, and anyone interested in the game should be checking in on the forum to understand the status, and not going outside in other outlets and potentially expressing frustration or other things that would be explained here on the forum, resulting in discouraging others to be interested in playing because of development issues.

Maybe we can just start a FAQ, meaning the questions most asked on cc and pms, like How do I pm, How do I start an alliance, how do I join an alliance, what are perks etc.

There is one :). Maybe we can add to it if it does not provide enough information

Have gone thru 20 pp of Forum, also FAQs, and only saw one reference abt where to find info on how to apply skill pts for individual perks.  If I have 2 skill pts, I was able to apply points to each perk until full all had skill pts applied, but found I could not then go in and actually pick the perk I wanted.  I did make a mistake (trying to figure what to do) by assigning 6 skill pts in Charisma.  This may have been the problem, but would it make it impossible to apply any skill pts in the other sections:  Wisdom, Intellect, etc.?  Someone sent me screenshots of the application of a second perk next in line, but I was unable to do it.  The reference I saw only said that a nice Player had pointed the person to the instructions.  Hope there is someone nice enough to do that now.  I do have reimagine tools, so willing to start over.

I have never liked forums for this task : they are good for discussion, not for information. Unless the forums posts have a "frontpage" that gets regularly edited (which is apparently not possible as many people get tricked and cannot edit their "reserved" posts :P), people will have to go through pages and pages of content whereas a wiki can be edited by users, and hopefully in the lot there are always a few volunteers to do the work.

I believe TT2 is getting big to the point wherre searches become tedious in the forum. I have been playing for quite some time but I still discover new features sometimes.

I am motivated to (re)start the wiki at wikia.com. I will start with the structure of the wiki, and to start with I'll mainly create pages with just links to forum threads, but hopefully later the wiki becomes a real wiki with content for each page.

Which name ? tt2.wikia.com or totem-tribe-2.wikia.com ? The second one may appear better with google searches ?

Also I suppose I have the authorization from the game devs to post images/content of TT in that website ?

How this thread does not work as a "frontpage" for you?

Wiki is not a content, it's just an infromation format. Without actual information wiki will be useless and empty. So far those people who were willing to share helpful information did so in forum threads/guides with great success and other people can comment / expand with their posts without going anywhere else.

Sure, I won't prohibit doing a wiki if someone desires to do so, but I can forecast the outcome: 99% chance it will not reach the usable state. With that enthusiasm it is better to do a guide or two on the controversal areas not covered extensively on forums yet. Just look at the guides in the thread above, there are only couple of them with a lot of outdated information but still pretty useful, because it covers one area at a time. In wiki you would need to write an article comparable to one other those guides on EVERY area of the game, otherwise it will be a ghost wiki.
