Alpha 5 will be launched in August!

Alpha 5 will be launched in August!

We plan to launch Alpha 5 version of Totem Tribe II: Jotun in August. Unless something unexpected happens that will force us to reschedule the release date for later, the August timeframe is pretty do-able. Alpha 5 is a major update which releases big features, but also will wipe all of the progress. Let me guide you through what will happen.

The Features

  • Renaissance Age - the biggest feature will be the release of a whole new age with all the new tech, buildings, units, and so on. I will not go into detail here, as there will be separate news post, along with sneak peaks like this one.
  • Tundra Climate - say goodbye to jungle and moderate climate for a while - Alpha 5 will happen among snowy landscapes.
  • Puzzles - there will be 10 different puzzle types added with 6 difficulty levels each, which will result in a total of 60 different puzzles. This is something to look forward to if you have been missing puzzles since the original Totem Tribe days (beware, some of them will be very tough). We even added a whole new achievement category under "Adventure" to keep track of the puzzles. You can see it even now.
  • There are other changes that will be made, but they will be announced upon Alpha 5 release.

The Wipe

Those of you who have been with us for a while are probably aware that each alpha stage begins and ends with a wipe. However I will go into detail again for those who are new and only started playing in Alpha 4.

The wipe means that we will clean everything up - all countries, heroes, and achievements will be removed and you will have to start anew. This is necessary so we could test the big new releases with all the major changes naturally in a clean environment.

An important thing to mention is how your Enkord Cash will be handled during this wipe - any unspent Enkord Cash will stay in your account and you will be able to spend it in Alpha 5. Furthermore, all Enkord Cash spent in August before the wipe will be refunded and you will be able to spend it again in Alpha 5. However, bonus items you have received will be lost after the wipe, so spend them first.

Conclusions

Now, as another alpha testing stage is coming to an end, it would be great if players could post their conclusions and impressions of their Totem Tribe II: Jotun - Alpha 4 experience. Go ahead, don't be shy! :)

Is this going to mean more figurines from quests for players that are not using real money?

It might be time to improve your servers. :)

We are constantly adding new quests and places with item rewards (like caves) and will continue to do so which may or may not include figurines based on your luck.

I Have really enjoyed playing this game, but I am saddened to think that I've only gotten barely two months of play time and everything that I have done and accomplished will be gone. But, I am thankful to the friends I have met, they are so kind and have really helped me out as far as learning how things work.

I think a great idea would be if you added the option to not participate in the war part. Like for instance just a campaign play like in the original, then you could have the war option. I Don't know, just a thought. I know, me personally, I would prefer not to fight against other players.

I, too, do not like nor enjoy the war aspect. I liked TT1 as I could play in peace and progress at my own leisure. Still trying to get used to multi-player; this is my first experience with it. However, I do enjoy the few friends I have "met" through this game. As far as the war loving players go, leave me in peace and go to war with others of the same nature as yourselves. I play this game for relaxation ONLY and as a way to "come down" after a hectic day of work.

Amynicole, Kenneth, I, along with at least two others with which I have become friends, feel the same way about the combat - with other players - aspect of the game.

Even though I like being able to interact - trade, share ideas, info., etc., - with others, mainly I just want a game I can play at my own pace, relieve stress, stimulate my mind with puzzle solving, etc.

It was so frustrating after having spent hours building up enough units, to fight monsters, to have them all wiped out in a few minutes by another player.

I, also, would like it if players, who don't want to fight with other players, could opt out of that aspect of the game and go straight to the other aspects of the game.

This has been discussed many times. See these threads.

Yep I started the second one. Oh I was such an inexperienced player then. I read that now and think, you silly girl. (I have added a bit of money to the donations since too) Yes just build up your defenses and walls, but don't think your just going to grow and expand at your leisure, either. You have to defend it, too.

I have only been playing for a few months and LOVE the game. My only frustration is, I love the player interactions and the puzzles, but have no desire to participate in the war aspect. I try to get my defenses built up but I get attacked and all soldiers killed and hero killed before I can recover from  the previous attack, because it takes so long to re-train and resurrect and build my resources back up. I finally had to delete one of my heroes because I kept getting attacked, and could not recover enough before the next wave came.  I would like to see a way to "opt out" of the war aspect and just play the collective. In every other way the game is awesome and I will continue to play.

I have a few suggestions for the devs consideration and everyone's comments-

  1. Create tabs in the build menus for the blacksmith and forge by type of unit.
  2. Provide the ability to print battle reports.
  3. Remove the restriction about settling a cell away from abandoned domains (this may no longer be necessary with the auto-delete function of abandoned domains).
  4. At the hero tab level, provide a summary of army units by town.
  5. Provide a stronger ability to resist pirate attacks.
  6. In the caves - with the broken stalagmite pieces - place the pieces in some reasonable proximity to the broken ones.  The caves (I am sure as intended) have a very difficult background to search in, if the pieces are a distance away it becomes just a clicking exercise).

Thanks for listening!

I have been here since Alpha 2 and I have to say great job with the progress of this game!  Since we are still in the testing stage I can't wait to test what comes next.

There has been so much more added lol and as Simba said frustrations as well but overall I think the additions only enhance the experience.  Looking forward to quests and puzzles and testing new war equipment.  Ships Ships Ships!!----I figure this time I won't land near any water since I've been fortunate to be placed there in these last 3 alpha's.

Anyway great jobs Dev's please keep it up!

What a great game. I have been playing for a while now and it just keeps getting better. I am really looking forward to Alpha 5. I loved the old TT and i really hope there will be more puzzle elements in the new one. When i started playing i hessitated to begin with because of the big war element. I would really hope that, eventually, there will be some kind of option to decide not to participate in the fighting. It will be interesting with a snowy environment and i hope there will be more quest and that the dialogue with Zweistein will be extended. Thanks for a great game :D

I have been giving my Alpha 4 impressions a lot of thought, but the only real thing I can come up with to say was that it seemed very hectic. While Medieval age took a long time to research it added lots of complexity. Stone age buildings becoming obsolete and needing destroyed and new structures to take their place. Also the ability to convert towns which I never did figure out but which many others did. Add to that the ability to pirate and sail across the ocean which is a very nice twist.

Random caves were added which increased my feeling of being harried to play faster to accomplish more things in the short time a stage usually lasts. There was also the addition of equipment and weaponry durability which all the sudden made the duplicate items we used to complain about finding much more valuable since your gear could now wear out. Of course then you added the idols which gave us the ability to fix, enchant, etc our gear, so now that is not an issue either. Ah and do not forget treasure hunting, lovely things to search but I had no time for that (all who know me know I am always off to war so who has time to search for buried treasure).

Speaking now of War you added the trophy hall, but do not think that is easy to fill, this of course made me need to strive to collect all of the trophies which sadly people can see in the war victory thread I did not manage to do. Also you implemented the feature where towns that are abandoned will now vanish from the map, while this is something I have long advocated the implications for next stage and being a warrior are too numerous to mention here. I have apologized on common chat, and tried to make it clear to people that attacks are nothing personal, trying to prepare them for next stage, when to destroy 30 towns for the Scorched Earth achievement and collect the flags for the Trophy hall means I have to attack active players.

There were many more things I am sure I left out, and from the post above and the things the developers have let out, next stage will be even busier. I have promised myself that I will relax this next alpha and try not to feel like I need to rush through everything, this is strictly my own competitive nature that has made me feel like there is not enough time to do everything this game has to offer, I will try to contain that part of me next stage. I realize the victories are not meant to all be achieved in one play through but that does not keep my from wanting to try and that is the demon I must fight.

These are just some of things that are running through my mind in anticipation of the new stage. Bring on the wipe I say.

Alpha 4 is my introduction to the game.  I loved the other TT games and was a little hesitant about playing this new version.  Right now I feel like I have a large learning to curve to catch up with the more experienced players.  The good thing is information is shared generously and I like the ability to talk with other players.  I hadn't commented much because most of my concerns etc. have been addressed by other players.  The FAQs and Forums have been extremely helpful.  The cc is informative and can at times be entertaining.  Can't wait for the next Alpha .  Great Job development team!!

I remember reading about the expected time line of the final game...about 6 months....I have been playing right about that length of time, and just in the last few days finished researching everything available.  I didn't upgrade everything to maximize research capabilities, but it seems like you have to do so, in several towns to be able to research everything in the expected time period for the game, especially adding more ages.

I know a lot of people complain about the slowness of the game.  I am not a patient person, but I understand the reasoning behind it.  Also, I am not really into the pvp part of the game, in this alpha I have been "lucky" I guess since up until the last week, neither of my hero's have been attacked, or plundered.  With the end of this alpha coming, the attack I had this week was actually expected, I really figured there would be a lot more.  I know a couple of my alliance mates have been attacked much more, being a little closer to aggressive players, I would not have enjoyed the game as much if I had been attacked more.

I much prefer the puzzle parts of the game.  I am not, however, very good at them,  it is nice to have other players and the forum to be able to ask for hints. [where is the sun???  lol]

Trying to wait patiently for A5!!
