Totem Tribe 2 will be released earlier but with limited features.

Totem Tribe 2 will be released earlier but with limited features.

Our decision to make Totem Tribe 2 online-enabled to support multiplayer now allows us to do other interesting things. Since we have so much stuff planned for TT2, it will be very hard to pull it off in the next 1-2 years. On one side we want to make this game as big and diverse as possible, but on the other side we don't want our fans to wait years and years till release. Therefore we decided to release the game with limited number of features but will keep adding more stuff to the game later. Moving the game towards multiplayer and online play will allow us to do just that. Totem Tribe 2 will have automated updater which will allow to update the game each time you launch it, if there is a new content available. You will no longer need to search for patches and fixes or download new versions. Automated downloader will do that for you.

Berserker....I understand the piracy problem. Will this work like the Wild tagent games where the icon loads on your computer and you just click on it and keep playing where you left off? I did enjoy playing at the hospital or while at the farm when there was no connection but if the only way to play is to connect I will play when I can connect. I will be glad when it is released. I am sure TT2 will be a wonderful game

I am not very familiar how WildTangent games work, but TT2 will work like this: You will create an account, like on this blog and then your progress is stored on server, therefore you can enter your login and password at any PC and continue playing. In example, you started playing the game on your home PC, then quit and entered the game on your laptop and continue playing right where you left! No need to transfer save files back and forth, etc. You also don't have to worry if your PC crashes - even if you reinstall Windows or buy new PC, all you need is just re-download the game from our website, and you can continue your game - your saved progress will be there!

Hey Berserker, just signed up to offer you some support! I was planning to pay for TT2 anyway...because I want to see TT3! But I completely understand the problem with pirating. Anyway, as long as I can still play single player and I don't need super internet I think having the game saved on your servers can only make it more convenient! Oh and I can't wait to see female hero generator options - keep up the great work!

Thanks Cynistic, We will make sure that despite those necessary changes, the game will be up to the fun level set by previous games in the series.

Hi Totem Tribe team, Just wanted to say that I am looking forward to the next Totem Tribe game. I really don't mind if it's on- or offline as long as I can play it. Keep up the good work and I am sure that you will make a supergame. Best regards Marjan from Holland

Berserker....I think maybe there is a total misunderstanding of the online gaming platform by some of the posters. But if a person does not purchase a game they play out right, then they are playing online. HP games, Wild tagent games, MSN games they are all on line. TT and TTgold were my first venture into games and I came to your site to purchase them because I was afraid of Piracy. I personally look forward to an ever changing game that the developers can change and upgrade. I think people who are real fans of TT given the chance to try the new platform will find that they do like it. Hoping all have a beautiful day and wonderful night.

I too am amongst the disappointed! when buying a game, I consider it to be mine to play on my terms, ie: not being forced to be on net, or relying on updates, I have enough that updates on my PC now! also have my fav games on a 2nd Pc, or laptop that never gets connected to internet, so there are lots of different reasons, The pirate/hacker arguement over emphasized! let`s face it, EVERYONE is at some sort of risk...from the home pc user (just surfing, banking, email, buying, d/loading etc) to small, medium or big music, graphic, game, and retail companies, if these pirates/hackers want it bad enough, they`ll get it! Just recently Steam was badly compromised...online gaming, all similar setups, which btw my hubby hates! and he buys $100+ games, but has ditched quite a few already, can`t stand the interrupting updates, and problems too, when it`s slow or not able to connect, or just recently not being able to play your chosen game at all! it`s not always our PC`s that are at fault! After a lot of research...the majority of casual games are played by the "mature" audience who don`t like "Online" Just because you lost on the 1st TT, doesn`t mean you`ll lose on this one, the gaming world has come a long way in 3 yrs (since TT) a long time in PC world. Many smaller game developers have success with having access to all the big companies (that have millions of followers) to advertise and source their games, BFG with their CE editions come to mind. Anyway, only my opinion, and I do respect yours, and wish you much success, you do great work! I can only wish this will be a huge hit, then you might make enough profit to be able to give us a "proper" TT3! BIG thank you for many enjoyable hrs of gameplay from your previous games, take care :)

"The pirate/hacker arguement over emphasized!" It's over emphasized only if you are a player, cause you don't spend your precious time and money only to find out, that most players just stole your game and you barely broke even your money investment (but not time!). If you are a game developer who tries to make money in this buisness, it's under emphasized.

"Many smaller game developers have success with having access to all the big companies (that have millions of followers) to advertise and source their games, BFG with their CE editions come to mind." We already had such "success" with BFG, so NO, THANKS, we better try hard to be as independent as possible and earn less, than to have some third party company to decide if our games are worth it or no. Here is some info about our release experience of original Totem Tribe on BFG, if you missed it back in the days. "the gaming world has come a long way in 3 yrs (since TT) a long time in PC world." You are right, and the world of PC gaming is shifting towards online more and more with each year. We made the inevitable step.

*sigh* One more game going into the gutter... I don't like the idea of the online-only experience. I've suffered enough with Steam already... And even Steam can be used offline!! And the sad part is: Enkord THINKS going online will help against piracy. Thats... naive! Specially considering that the game WILL retain offline-like gameplay! If going online helped against piracy, those games released on Steam wouldn't be pirated in a day or so after being released. Piracy is a bitch, but things like going online to TRY to avoid it means that the legit players will be the only ones to be punished by piracy! Using strong methods of anti-piracy systems could reduce piracy without punishing the players. Heck, not even MMORPGs are free from piracy! War against piracy is a war you can't win, unfortunatelly. If you THINK things will be different by going online, you'll be HIGLY disapointed. Being a software developer is a bitch, and sometimes not worth it, I'm afraid. But hey! MANY small developers are still standing, even with piracy! Maybe if Ekord learns how to do propper marketing, and better tech support, you wouldn't suffer so much from piracy! Lastly, a game that REQUIRES conection to a server means nobody will really own the game, but you. I mean, lets imagine this: I buy this game. I play it, and love it. Then, all of a sudden, Enkord kicks the bucket and closes the server. Now I WON'T be able to play a game that I actually bought?!? And considering that many sites are spreading the "the only people who won't like this are pirates" as one of the stupidiest things any game developer could ever say, I don't think TB2 will sell very well, making it easier for erkord to close its server soon after people buy the game. In other words, there's a chance that the buyers just give away money to an arrogant developer! It should at least be like Steam, where you HAVE to conect to download and update the game (and also check if you have a legit copy, of course), but you DO have the option to go offline if you want (and use Steam without having to be conected).

"Thats... naive! Specially considering that the game WILL retain offline-like gameplay! If going online helped against piracy, those games released on Steam wouldn't be pirated in a day or so after being released." Steam games does not rely on servers to be able to play. Totem Tribe 2 will be basically played on server like big MMO games, even if you play alone aka single-player. That's why you won't be able to pirate it or hack it, cause all game mechanics runs on server and server validates your account. If you are legit player, you just play like normal, but once we see a lot of players play from the same account, we can just ban that account as was clearly shared/pirated. That's like big games like World of Warcraft work and that's why you don't have good pirate copies of World of Warcraft, only buggy emulated servers that feature outdated content. "Using strong methods of anti-piracy systems could reduce piracy without punishing the players." That's exactly what we do. The only strong anti-piracy method is to transfer all game mechanics to the server, so it can't be altered and thus accessed illegally. Any other means got cracked over couple of days and easily spread everywhere. "If you THINK things will be different by going online, you'll be HIGLY disapointed." I don't think, I KNOW. We already have online-only game, and despite having way less follower base than Totem Tribe, it brings us WAY MORE money. "Lastly, a game that REQUIRES conection to a server means nobody will really own the game, but you." Games are fun and enjoyable experience in the first place, and tangible good way later.

Based on the fact that you deleted my last post, I'll assume that I've hit a soft spot. Fine. But you DO understand my concern, right? We have to trust someone before giving away our money. My main concern is this. How can we know that we won't pay for a game that will be taken out days or months later?!?

"Games are fun and enjoyable experience in the first place, and tangible good way later." This is YOUR opinion, NOT a fact! Many people are proud owners of older games and still play them today. Fun games are fun experiences even 10, 15 years later.

I deleted your post because it contained insults. I can accept any opinion as long as it is modest. You concern about not be able to play since we decide to shut down server is a bit paranoid to be honest. You want to own games that a really fun, don't you? You don't want to own unentertaining games, and that means that fun experience is way more important. That's what we focus on. We want to create enjoyable experience and get paid fairly for it.

"You concern about not be able to play since we decide to shut down server is a bit paranoid to be honest. " Paranoid? You guys aren't giving us a chance to trust you! You guys may as well be a buch of thieves, how would we know otherwise? Hell, you jump to the conclusion that everyone who doesn't like this new idea is a pirate, and expect us to just trust you guys? So my concern is paranoid, huh? But look at you! Enkord is a small company, with sub-par tech support, that created a game that, while fantastic, was unstable on many computers! And you are a developer (or coder, who knows) that said numerous times that TT1 almost made you financially broke. The fact is: Enkord doesn't give us a reason to trust you! Anyway, if NOT trusting you guys makes me paranoid, so yeah, I'm paranoid. Please, understand that I AM actually interested in buying your game, but this online-only things almost killed it for me, specially because I don't want to pay a game that I can't own. Believe-me: if TT wasn't important for me, I wouldn't be here complaining. I wouldn't care less! But TT1 was a great game, that I AM happy to OWN and play ANY TIME I WANT. I'm a game collector, I have more than 10.000 games that I'm HAPPY to still own and be able to play them. It hurts knowing that I won't be able to have TT2 for as long as I want! "You don't want to own unentertaining games, and that means that fun experience is way more important. That's what we focus on. We want to create enjoyable experience and get paid fairly for it." Yeah, get paid for a great work is nice! But look at the player's side: we are gonna pay for an incomplete game that MAY OR MAY NOT get better in the long run, and we wouldn't really OWN the game. Its more like a rental, really.

You are talking like you are obligated to buy it. But you don't. Really. When the game will become available, you will be able to try it out FOR FREE and decide yourself whether it's worth the asking price or not. Or, taking into account your arguments - to decide whether it's worth to pay for it to have enjoyable but maybe not forever-lasting experience.

I agree with a lot of the comments. I play games I have had for way over 5 years .. I paid for them and they are mine to play when I want.  to pay for a game and you guys aren't cheap!!! and then not have play rights for it forever is in no way fair to the players.

Now you can't even keep your servers onine 24/7 even for the Alpha Testing...what's it going to be like if you have a few thousand trying to use your servers. I doubt if you are ready !!!
