[SURVEY] Would YOU invite more players to Totem Tribe II?

1 2 3 4

Today we have fixed the server stability issue which caused the server to go into maintainance often and now we are ready to have more players into the game. However I like the community we have here and very protective about it, thus very cautious with letting random people in (especially since server still limited in the load it can handle). Therefore I was thinking about how to expand the player base without spoiling it with random annoying kids you all know the internet is full of.

That's why I came with this idea - you, (yes, YOU presonally) will bring more people like yourself into the game.

Joking aside, I am thinking about referral system which will encourage people to invite others like themselves into the game and this is where I need your feedback and thoughts about it.  My idea is if current community is good, people invited by this community will be good addition into the game as well. But since good will is good, but good will backed up with a bit of gold is much better, I am thinking about proper encouragement system for people who will take the burden of inviting others.

Then 3 principles come into my mind:

  1. The reward of inviting other people must be as generous as possible (because promotion is not a job to sneeze at)
  2. The invites should be limited, so people inviting others will not be spamming with invites, but rather carefully giving away to the proper people (you will understand why a bit later)
  3. The reward must depend on the progress of the invitee - the small portions of it in the beginning, but real stuff later when invitee will progress deep enough (This will make #2 work).

In order to implement those 3 principles I am thinking about rewards that will be given to the inviter per each invitee when the invitee reaches specific achievements. Here is the list of possible achievements (It is not in any way final or accurate, but good enough to give you an idea):

  • Start the game (speaker_horn)
  • Create a hero (purified_iron_ore)
  • Open the world Map / Reach the Herald's Home (onyx_crystal)
  • Complete the tutorial (novice_manual)
  • Reach the Stone Age (microscope)
  • Hero reaches level 2 (trommel)
  • Find Gromus in Opposition Hideout (patons_hammer)
  • Domain size reaches 13 cells (scholar_manual)
  • Train first siege unit (ram or catapult) (battle_cry)
  • Hero reaches level 3 (ambrosia)
  • Total resource income reaches 1000 (hors_hoe)
  • Obtain first strategic resource (nectar)
  • Domain size reaches 25 cells (apprentice_manual)
  • Hero reaches level 5 (bronze_merchant_badge)
  • Settle second town (blueprint)
  • Hero reaches level 10 (figurine_of_enlightment)
  • Domain size reaches 50 cells (master_manual)
  • Total resource income reaches 4000 (hors_hoe)
  • Fill up all hero inventory slots (except rings and amulets) (figurine_of_teaching)
  • Reach Classical Age (sextant)
  • Settle third town (grandmaster_manual)
  • Hero reaches level 20 (blueprint)
  • Reach Medieval Age (encyclopedia)
  • Domain size reaches 100 cells (ultimate_manual)
  • Hero reaches level 30 (blueprint)
  • Total resource income reaches 10000 (hors_hoe, yarilos_axe, dajbogs_pickaxe, swarogs_spade)
  • Hero reaches level 40 (figurine_of_enlightment)
  • Hero reaches level 50 (blueprint)

As you can see, there is no fluff, the rewards are pretty reasonable, and I must reiterate, the list of PER ONE INVITEE, thus if you bring 3 new people and all of them will become active players and play till the end, you will get 3x of everything in that list.

You feedback about this is super-important!

What do you think about this idea? Would that list motivate YOU to invite someone? Is the list too generous/not generous enough? Don't be afraid to criticize and tell me if I am greedy with this :)

This is very important decision, because it may heavily influence the future of this game and its community, so speak up!

One thing I would wonder with this idea is how many people have actually used the invites they have right now?

I have no friends I would invite, but I know we need more players to really progress. I feel new invites are new invites no matter who brings them in so I say just open the door. I have told them where the sun is now :)

Would you carefully check the invites though to stop multis just to get the goodies? That's the only problem I find with giving incentives to people to "invite" other people.

I like the idea of partitioned rewards, like you did, it is more fun to receive some items as your friends develop, instead of just getting a pack x no. friends recruited.

One question I have---Hero level 50 is pretty high up there.... what would one still be building towards the end, where they would need blueprint? I'm still pretty new so I don't totally get the endgame... so i still have newbie perspective. ;-) all in all, seems like a good list, and a very good idea to have it be invite only. I'll edit this as I think of things...

Thanks for all your efforts!

That's why I want the rewards to be very slim in the beginning but generous later. There is no way to stop multi-accounts, only ways to encourage or discourage making them. If person is willing to get into trouble of playing up to settling second town just to get a blueprint for his main account I would say - go for it. At least he will be an extra target for leaderism players which will also add up to the game in a way.

Yes, actually now I look at the list properly, would someone really create a multi for the first few very easily obtainable items. The good stuff gets going at a decent level in the game. :)

I like the list you've brought forward and it does mean you would need to keep urging and nuturing your friends in order to start reaping the good stuff.

Great idea.

I like the idea but I think the number of invitees allowed per player should be limited. I also wonder about the "trickle down" affect and how that might impact server capacity/space concerns...for example, if i invite 3 and each of those 3 invite 3, and so on... would you limit the ability to invite players to only existing players? That would be more controllable regarding the number of newcomers but it also gives current players yet another advantage with the reward system...

I think this is a great idea to get new players. The idea of enticing us to invite people with rewards only makes it better. I would invite a few people that I know would love the game and would actively participate to make it better. The rewards seem appropriate.

Yes, that's also part of the design. You will be motivated to coach your invitees, to get better stuff later and it will be easier to get into the game for them when something more experienced is backing them up.

I will gladly invite more folks. If I get a reward that is just icing on the cake so to speak.

Although I like your idea to foster and protect this community (and yourself) from the idiots, I think one blueprint at level 50 is pretty mean, in fact the whole reward scheme genuinely seems parsimonious to me. With such slender rewards I don't think we will be encouraged to invite selectively the players we think would enjoy the game and benefit the community. Rather, it would be a reason to invite anybody and everybody in the hope that a few stick.

Congrats on sorting out the server problem. it's looking good so far. If you ever need a systems programmer I am retired...

I will gladly help them along so long as I could find them, that is the difficult part not knowing their name and how to find them.

Hi, I think that would be a proper reward. What im concerned about is that With so little room for each other People will loose interest in playing this game, if you are New. It can be to much for the newbabis, they dont know how to handle it.

Great idea. However, overcrowding is a serious issue with most players, newer and seasoned. Not only is this a great personal expense due to hurried expansion and growth, i feel this would be a big issue with any new or potential new players. Also, with more advanced players attacking new players before they have a chance to understand and enjoy the game, is a bad advertisement for what is a brilliant game. a hero level restriction could be put on attacks to encourage new players to develop and enjoy the full potential of the game.

i would NOT invite any new people to this game in its current state because of the overcrowding.

In the past I have tried to persuade people to join us but... they take one look at how crowded we are, laugh and go back to the games they enjoy playing.

It would be better if the overcrowding is reduced to allow more space for newbies to enjoy the game a bit longer before they are put under the pressure of fighting to keep their heroes, and domains, alive. This would keep the newbies more interested in continuing to play longer.

THEN I would invite people to join us in this game so they can enjoy themselves and watch how it evolves. And these newbies would spread the good word about TT2 :)

Edit: The rewards are very good value :)

You (or anyone else who think the rewards are parsimonious) are welcome to propose the rewards which would motivate you to do the invites, that's the point of this thread.

Also with limited number of invites it is always more favorable to invite people who stick, because random people may try the game for an hour and then quit, and it's a used up invite which brought you 1 speaker horn and that's it.

I would invite friends that I thought would enjoy the game, regardless of rewards. The space issue is something to consider, as some players are crowded now already. I do think that there should be a limit on how many we could invite however. The rewards are a nice touch.

I am relatively new to this game so correct me if I am wrong but hasn't it been random people playing this game up to now and from what you say you have got a good community. So why control who comes into the game by using invites. How have the annoying kids been kept out to date. Is it just luck that they are not here already. Is it possible to have a separate area for newbies where, if they are annoying they can be stopped without spoiling the overall game for the rest. What would happen to the rewards that the invitee got if the invited person was a pain. When the game goes live it will have to have a mechanism in place to deal with this or will the live game be by invite only as well?
